Attention Advanced Placement Students!
AP exams continue next week. We want to wish you the best throughout the testing process. Earlier this week, the AP Study Guide and Exam Day checklist were sent out. Below are some reminders as you prepare.
Review the 2020 AP Testing Guide (.pdf/10.37 MB) and watch the overview video. The comprehensive guide will help you walk you through exam preparation, and the video gives a high-level overview of this year's exams.
Practice with the exam demo. You now have access to an exam demo. Students should use the demo to practice the different ways to submit exam responses. World language students will be able to practice with the AP World Languages Exam App beginning the week of May 11.
Review the required and recommended resource list
TWO DAYS BEFORE EACH EXAM
Locate your e-ticket. Two days before each exam, you will receive an email with your unique exam e-ticket that includes their AP ID. On exam day, you will use your e-ticket to access the exam. If a student hasn't received their exam e-ticket by email, they can access it through their student account on My AP. E-tickets are nontransferable and shouldn't be shared with anyone. Students who haven't been receiving College Board emails still have time to confirm their contact information.
Complete the AP Exam Day Checklist (.pdf/513.39 KB) for each exam you're taking. Students should complete this checklist and keep a printed or handwritten copy with them for reference during testing. Completing the checklist will help you feel confident and set up for success.
ON EXAM DAY
Click your e-ticket to check in 30 minutes before exam start time. Students should allot 80 minutes for each exam—30 minutes to enter their AP ID, name, and other information, and 50 minutes to draft and submit their responses. Make sure you know their local testing time (Eastern Standard), since each subject's exam will be taken simultaneously worldwide.
What to do if something goes wrong. If a student accidentally closes the browser, their device crashes, or they temporarily lose internet access, they can quickly click their exam e-ticket again to return to the exam. They should continue the exam, and if they feel at the end of the exam that the temporary disruption negatively impacted their performance, they can request approval to take the makeup exam at cb.org/requestmakeup. Students can also request a makeup exam if they've lost too much time due to a technical problem, can't connect to their exam, or experienced some other serious disruption.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
AP Refunds:
Students are strongly encouraged to work with their current teachers and to utilize Collegeboard’s online AP resources. The exam has been shortened and it also covers less material.
There will be no formal cancellation process for AP exams. If a student no longer wants to take the AP exam they will simply not take it during the scheduled time. There is no need for the parent to notify the teacher or the AP Coordinator. CB South will be notified in June regarding who took the test. Those who originally paid and chose not to take the test will be given a refund of $99 through their mypaymentsplus account once CollegeBoard reconciles their records with us at the conclusion of testing. If there are extenuating circumstances that require an earlier cancellation and refund, please contact the AP Coordinator, Mr. Tom Hill - thill@cbsd.org.
Also, per Collegeboard, no student can register for an exam at this point due to test security reasons. If a student did not pay for the exam during the registration period when school was in session, then they will not be able to take.
AP Score Reports and Seniors:
Seniors are advised to note what college they want their AP scores to be sent. That notification takes place in their personal AP Collegeboard account, and it can be completed at this time.
Specific questions regarding exam content can be addressed to the student’s AP teacher. Specific questions regarding exam registration can be addressed to the AP Coordinator, Mr. Tom Hill at thill@cbsd.org
An Important Message from South's Guidance Department
It is very important to remember that children look to adults for guidance on how to react to stressful events. If parents seem overly worried, children’s anxiety may rise. Parents should reassure children that health and school officials are working hard to ensure that people throughout the country stay healthy. However, children also need factual, age appropriate information about the potential seriousness of disease risk and concrete instruction about how to avoid infections and spread of disease. Teaching children positive preventive measures, talking with them about their fears, and giving them a sense of some control over their risk of infection can help reduce anxiety.
There are a number of valuable resources pertaining to mental wellness, crisis, drug & alcohol support on our district website. To access these organizations’ phone numbers and website information please visit the Family Support Resources page.

National History Day
Three CB South students will be participating in the National History Day competition at the state level this Spring. NHD is a historical competition that allows students to research a topic of historical significance and then present them creatively to a panel of judges. After the cancellation of the regional competition, Amy Liu, Elizabeth Zuerblis and Holly Mirales were able to advance to the virtual State competition. This virtual format allows students the opportunity to display their projects in spite of the Corona virus situation. With the guidance of NHD club president Pranathi Birapuneni and mentor Mrs. Nulty, many months of hard work have culminated into many interesting projects.
- Amy Liu: Exhibit: Ada Lovelace
- Elizabeth Zuerblis: Documentary: The Women Air Force Service Pilots
- Holly Mirales: Individual Performance: Pearl Buck and China: Breaking Down Cultural and Racial Barriers.
We wish all the best to these three hard-working students and hope their hard work pays off in the state competition.
