April Character Education: Self-Discipline
The mission of Galena Park ISD is to prepare students to become productive citizens and lifelong learners.
We feel that by engaging our students in exciting lessons that explore and incorporate higher level thinking skills, we can assure success for all of our students.
Self-Discipline is the ability to be in control of our actions so that we can make positive choices that benefit us as well as others. To be successful, we all need to learn from our experiences and develop self-discipline, which will help us keep our impulses and feelings from controlling us. Self-Discipline is a practical skill that gives all of us tangible benefits in our lives and in our relationships with others.
Please take a moment to talk to your child about this month's character education theme and what it means to them. Administrators and teachers will be highlighting students who exhibit this character during the month of April.
Texas Reads One Book
On Monday, April 16, Galena Park ISD third graders will join Dallas Cowboys head coach, Jason Garrett, as he kicks off Texas Reads One Book with his videotaped reading of the first chapter of The Mouse and the Motorcycle.
Every student will receive their own copy of the book to read at home or in the classroom. Galena Park ISD encourages families to pick up where Coach Garrett left off, reading a chapter from the book each night.
There will be daily trivia questions, discussions, and other activities in the classroom to ensure that reading takes center stage in the home, school and community throughout the duration of the program.
The Texas Reads One Book program’s goal is to encourage family involvement in the reading process and boost student engagement with books.

Just go to their webpage, https://txparentportal.emetric.net
