PTSA Kahoot! Contest
All students are invited to the PTSA-sponsored game of Kahoot!, a game-based platform using phones, tablets or laptops. The games are multiple-choice quizzes that allow participants to answer questions via a web browser.
There are three categories: General Trivia, Pop Culture and Park Hill. PTSA will award prizes to the top three players in each round and one grand prize to the student with the best overall time. If there is a tie, there will be a run off.
Pre-registration is a must for all students who plan on riding the Activity Bus home after the game. All others are encouraged to pre-register to help with snack planning, although, walk-ups are welcome.
Students are encouraged to pre-register at Kahoot! Registration or at the PTSA table during lunch from December 3 to 7.

In the Season of Giving...
Did you know that as a member of the PHHS PTSA, you also belong to Missouri PTA and National PTA? Did you also know that National PTA is the oldest and largest child advocacy organization in the country? Over 121 years, National PTA has played a significant role in the passage of legislation for things we all take for granted like public kindergarten, child labor laws, the public health service, juvenile justice system, hot lunches in schools, mandatory immunizations, and school bus safety regulations. Don't forget the Reflections arts in education program - the largest program of its kind in the country, and Teacher Appreciation Week - a National PTA program established in 1984.
PHHS PTA and PTSA feeds families and teachers during conference weeks, sponsors Open House, Car Care 101, the Reflection’s contest, leadership training, Senior Parent Reception, the After Prom Party, four $500 senior scholarships, Staff Appreciation and for the second year in a row, the Shifting the Paradigm workshop.
New this year is the addition of the ‘S’ in PTSA - Students! These students work to engage fellow students in advocating on issues that relate to them. Mental health is at the top of their list. On their calendar is a Kahoot! Trivia contest in December and Blood Drive in January. In 2019, they plan to visit the state capitol to meet with legislators and develop a community service project.
PTSA is so much more than you might realize. Your membership demonstrates your support for the work we do at PHHS, and by association, in D.C. on behalf of all children. Attend meetings, volunteer and during this season of giving, consider joining. Membership forms are available here.

Preventing Teen Suicide
Suicide is a complicated act with many factors. In many cases, a mental health condition is part of it, but these conditions are treatable. It’s really important if you or your child are not feeling well in any way to reach out for help. Please visit the suicide prevention page on our website, as well as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline for more resources as you talk to your children about suicide. The prevention page also has information about how Park Hill is working to train staff, parents and students about the signs of suicide.
Another article that parents might find helpful appeared in the August 17, 2017 edition of The New York Times called, "Preventing Teen Suicide: What the Evidence Shows".

Lead, Development, Fun: Join PHHS PTSA!
Participation in Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) is an excellent opportunity for students to practice leadership and make a difference for their school. Students can also build their resume by gaining experience in advocacy, public-speaking, teamwork and event planning.
PTSA membership gets our students a seat at the table with school decision-makers, including parents, teachers, administration and members of the community. At all levels, but especially the high school level – it's important for our students' voices to be part of the conversation as equal members with an equal vote.
Moderated by PTSA Youth Advisor Bonnie Cannon, current PTSA students decided their leadership projects for the year would focus on community outreach, mental health and safety. It's not too late to join! Meetings are held in the library on the following dates from 2:45 p.m. to 4 p.m.
•December 17
•January 7 and 22
•February 4 and 25
•March 11 and 25
•April 8 and 23
•May date is to be determined.
