.

On Friday evening, I attended opening night of the KMS ShakesBears Drama Club presentation of “Puffs.” There were several sixth graders involved and everyone did an outstanding job with a script that is fast moving, and heavy on dialogue. If you have not had a chance to see it, there is another set of shows next weekend.
This week marked the end of State Testing. There will be one more session of Fastbridge for ELA (English Language Arts) and Math and then testing should be complete for the year except for classroom content assessments.
Last week during lunch, students worked to reset their behaviors to basic expectations and were assigned seats based upon their 4th period class. When students successfully meet expectations, they will earn free-choice seating again.
Each week, table groups can earn up to 15 points by: 1. Keeping their hands/feet and bodies to themselves. 2. Cleaning up their table (sweeping underneath, tossing garbage, and wiping up any spills). 3. Monitoring their volume, keeping voices at an indoor conversational level. 4. Giving the speaker a “High Five” (voices off, eyes on the speaker, hands up within a count of five). 5. Bonus points are earned by completing puzzles, cleaning up other tables or areas, going out of their way to demonstrate the “Grizzly Way” (Kindness, Citizenship, Integrity, and Respect).
There are five weeks of school left. This means there is still time for students to turn in missing assignments and bring up their grades. Please check Power School for missing assignments. If you click on the grade for the class, it will open another window that lists all assignments. An orange circle indicates the assignment is missing, a purple circle indicates the teacher has exempted the student from this assignment and if left uncompleted it will not affect their final grade. If you have questions, please call or email, and Kim or I will do our best to help.
I look forward to the next few weeks. There are several activity days scheduled and opportunities for fun and recognition. Stay tuned for updates and notices.
This is an all-day event for all students. There will be various presentations, including tinikling dance performances, documentary films, and multicultural-focused classroom activities such as Filipino card games, Alutiiq carving with soap, Latin American art projects, etc.
Grizzly Tickets are handed out to students who are "caught" doing great things. Whether they are demonstrating kindness, respect, citizenship, or any number of awesome characteristics, being awarded a Grizzly Ticket will earn them one entry into our weekly drawing.
Weekly drawing winners get to spend the following week at the KING/QUEEN GRIZZLY lunch table. This table has the privilege of being called first to get their lunch trays and the first to be dismissed to their next class. Occasionally, King or Queen Grizzly will get to use the microphone to dismiss all the other tables, too! CONGRATULATIONS and enjoy your reign!!
*ALL Grizzly Tickets awarded since the start of the school year will be entered in a big prize drawing in May!
LAST DAY FOR 6TH GRADE INTRAMURAL VOLLEYBALL: APRIL 26!
The last day for 6th grade intramural volleyball will be WEDNESDAY, April 26.
Thank you for making this a successful activity to start the school day!!
Students began the planning steps of their Public Service Announcement they will be making to create public awareness about their chosen endangered species. Ask them if they are making a video, radio ad, or poster! They also started an art project inspired by Andy Warhol’s paintings of endangered species in 1983. We are using oil pastels and watercolors to create a pop art inspired painting. Some classes had a local guest artist, Tasnah Bercy, visit and share some watercolor techniques.
This week we have been learning about tectonic plates and a little bit about volcanoes! We will have a test next week, the best ways they can prepare is by doing a crossword, rewatching videos, and talking to you about what they have learned. They have a little bit of homework this weekend to finish some classwork and to find a picture of themselves with a landform. They can use any landform that they have seen at any point in their life.
In ELA this week, we finished our introduction to narrative writing and introducing the writing process (using play-doh!) We will be starting to go through the writing process next week as we practice revising and editing our short stories from last Friday when I was out (VERY short) and then starting to brainstorm for new stories that we’ll be writing over these next couple of weeks. As always, students are expected to be reading at home for 20 minutes each night!
