Family Focus
This year we are taking more of a family focused approach to homework. We believe that spending quality family time is vital in the success of your student. We will provide family friendly, engaging homework activities and assignments. We would love if you would send us pictures of these activities and share them with us.
This weeks Family focus:
Please continue to work with your child on counting coins. Lay out a variety of coins and have your child count it for you. Lay out coins, some heads facing up and some tails facing up, have your child identify the coin and its value. Some of the tails are tricky to figure out!
Academics
Students will be identifying high frequency words in second grade. These are words that students should recognize without having to decode. These are also placed in classrooms for frequent practice.
Practice the words on the list and also encourage your child to think of more words that fit the rule that are not on the list. Students will be tested on 5 words from the list that was sent home and 5 more that follow the rule.
Reading: This week we will be reading "Babu's Song" In which we will continue discussing the different components of a story, setting, authors purpose, making/ confirming predictions and using context clues.
Guided reading books will be sent home based on end of 1st grade reading level.
ELA: We will be focusing Sentence structure, punctuation and capitalization and prepositions.
Math: Students will continue working with coins and review how to identify odd/even numbers
Science: Students will further discuss matter and tools.
Social Studies: Students will be learning about specific influential people that have made contributions to our society.
