Principal's Message
As we take time to reflect on the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., I am so honored that we are a living extension of his famous dream. We show up for our scholars daily and overcome challenges to ensure they receive the best education possible in East Nashville. Everyday isn’t perfect but we continue the fight for equity and justice in the education field. We believe not in what’s IMPOSSIBLE but we help scholars believe I’M POSSIBLE no matter what barriers lie on the horizon for them on their quest for college and beyond. You all proved that because currently 70% of our scholars met their winter MAP growth goals and over 130% of projected growth! Thank you for all your hardwork and dedication to Dr. King's dream and our EEP mission!
School Wide Focus
Priority #2: No Opt Out Academics
We are continuing to “build in strategies that encourage 100% participation and thinking” and continuing on with HOD. A glow is that we are definitely seeing scholars agreeing/disagreeing with some evidence during class discussions and the grow is pushing for the add on with evidence. Please review the example below and be prepared to target this in your 1:1s this week!
(Continue) Pushing for Evidence though HOD - After each question asked to scholars, scholars should agree, disagree, or sign to add on. Then they should defend their answer to the other person and look at them.
Example:
Teacher- Why did the character cry?
Scholar 1- He cried because he was sad
Scholars- Show yes, no, or add on right after scholar 1 answers
Teacher- Calls on another scholar showing either yes, no, or add on
Scholar 2- (Speaking to scholar 1)... I agree with you because, I disagree with you because, OR I like what you said, but I want to add on.
S-Teams
S-Teams are already scheduled this week for current scholars so please check your calendar invites. If you have any work samples to illustrate the deficits or positive growth please bring it to those meetings. One or two examples are fine. All new approved cases will likely be scheduled for the first week of February. Thank you for getting all that paperwork turned in. Be sure to keep collecting work samples and saving RTI related documents as we prepare to show what interventions are working (or not working) for our most struggling scholars.

Dean of Culture
Our culture focus for the entire month of January is transitions! We have noticed that the hallways are much quieter, lines have less gaps, and transitions to centers are much quicker. Shout to Liza Graham and Allie McLeod in Washington for implementing changes to your transition procedure and for taking the feedback given and implementing it right away. This week let’s continue to utilize the hallway stop signs, whisper narrations, hall passes, and let’s shorten the time it takes to go to and from active play outside!

Dean of SEL
Thanks for all of your hard work on testing this week! We are finishing our unit on proactivity by reading a really hilarious book titled Who Wet My Pants, which is about a bear who refuses to take responsibility for his choices. Also, thank you all for your work on your leadership notebooks as well! Every classroom has leadership notebooks they are adding to! Please make sure that you are having scholars fill in their academic data as you complete assessments.
Habit of the Week:
Habit #2 Begin With The End in Mind
Have a plan! Create small goals that will help you achieve your big goals at the end! Never give up, even when the work is difficult and you are feeling defeated!

Shout Outs
Congrats to our G.R.E.A.T. Winners of the Week and check out the Class Photo of the Week!
Teacher of the Week
She exemplifies the core value of TEAMWORK! She goes the extra mile daily, encouraging me to workout daily. When Ms. Moore is out or leaves early, she checks in to make sure Belmont has all the materials and handles some of our lovebugs. She's not a morning person, but still manage to speak every morning.
