Trojans Sign Football Scholarships
Congratulations to Chris Carter, Deonte Beauchamp, and Davey Hines!
These three Trojan football players signed college scholarships. Chris Carter has committed to Union College, Deonte Beauchamp to the University of Tennessee, and Davey Hines to Huntingdon College. We are so proud of these guys and wish them the best on and off the field. Way to go, Trojans!!
HGHS Wrestling Makes School History
Five members of our wrestling team qualified for the AHSAA Wrestling Super Section Tournament in Birmingham. Jacob Carpenter, Sydney Helton, Jackson Priven, Gabe Schroeder, and Jagger Thurman made school history by competing in sectionals in the HGHS Wrestling Program's inaugural season!
Congratulations to Gabe Schroeder for being Hazel Green High School’s first-ever state qualifier in wrestling. He will compete in the State Championships this Thursday through Saturday at the VBC. Good luck, G

Ag Students Complete Projects for FFA
The Miss FFA sign was designed and made by Presley Johnson! FFA will use it for Homecoming each year and for yearbook photos. All of it was made from scrap wood or pallet wood. Jay Moore made the FFA gavel for his first project on the lathe! Great job, Presley and Jay!

Thanks to our families and community partners who came out for the Family Care Fair! We’ll be highlighting some valuable resources over the next several weeks!
We had a great time at the All-Star Reading Kickoff!
Students in grades K-3 attended an assembly with Mrs. Wray and Mrs. Campbell as guest readers. Each student received a FREE book and a reading goal to meet before March 1, when we will celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday and hand out more free books and t-shirts for students who met their goal. Help them by reading at home!

Professional Development Fun!
Who will ‘break out first?’ EES teachers ‘broke out’ of traditional reading practices by looking at alternatives in The Book Whisperer. They then had to find clues and solve puzzles to break open their box. Learning, movement and fun were all involved!

Endeavor is so thankful for Mrs. Fletcher, our school counselor. She works with our students and their families. She teaches our boys and girls about goal setting, being good students and citizens, and reminds them to be kind, to be safe, and to be responsible. She is always ready to listen or encourage us. Thank you Mrs. Fletcher. We celebrate you this week! Happy National School Counseling Week.
Welcome Ms. McAlister
The Madison County Board of Education voted on January 31, 2019 to name Mrs. Jenny McAlister as the new Principal of Endeavor. Mr. Massey, our Superintendent, dropped by Endeavor to announce this news to the Endeavor students and teachers.
Mrs. McAlister has served as the assistant principal of Endeavor for the last 7 1/2 years and is excited to continue to serve the students and families of our school in this new role.

The Sparkman Family Schools hosted the Harlem Wizards on Sunday. It was such a fun event and helped raise money for our schools! A big thank you to Dr. Headen, Mr. Schmitt, Mrs. Martin, and Mrs. Cleaves for volunteering to play in the game!
National School Counseling Week- Mrs. Brown
LEGO Club
LEGO Club is for 3-5 graders. About fifty 3rd graders currently meet for an hour every other week. Students are provided with an engineering challenge from the sponsors, Emily Dodd and Thad Looser. Pictures below depict students designing their dream playground.
Archery
Legacy Elementary hosted a joint archery tournament with 11 Madison County and Madison City schools participating the last week of January. Grades 4-12 participated. Shooting from 10 and 15 meters, top team scores for each school level group were: Legacy Elementary--2823, Buckhorn Middle--3238, and Buckhorn High--3356.
Leadership Huntsville Visits Legacy
Wednesday morning, SGA representatives welcomed Leadership Huntsville members to Legacy. Mr. Trawick and Ms. Ford presented an overview of what we do at Legacy each day and provided group tours around the school. Leadership Huntsville provides area leaders a chance to discuss topics as they relate to the community. As part of their programming, site visits, behind-the-scenes tours, and interactive Program Days participants gain a better understanding of the greater community. This helps develop an appreciation of community resources ultimately resulting in engagement.
National School Counselors Week
Mr. Pettey teaches all students each week, started and sponsors the WATCH D.O.G. program, sponsors and coordinates Lunches of Love for needy students, sponsors and coordinates Legacy’s Golf Club, and handles all of our testing materials, training, and scheduling as well as a multitude of other duties. We appreciate all of his hard work to teach our students character traits that last a lifetime as well as help students with coping skills and family issues.

6A Area 16 and Region 8 Winners
Congratulations to Emerson Barrett and Jaylon Dixon! Both were chosen as the 6A Area 16 and 6A Region 8 Bryant-Jordan winners. Emerson is the regional winner for the scholar-athlete award and Jaylon is the regional winner for the student achievement award.
This school year the 34th banquet and awards ceremony is scheduled for Friday, April 8, 2019. All 104 regional winners will be recognized and honored, and the 14 class winners and the two state winners will be announced. Best of luck to Emerson and Jaylon!

Men's Choral Festival at Montevallo
The BHS Concert Choir men had a great time at the University of Montevallo Men’s Choral Festival. In this popular event, scores of male singers from Alabama middle and high schools, and community college choral students, join the University of Montevallo Choral Department in a concert of classic choral works composed expressly for male voices.

Kuran Garner nominated for Huntsville Region Player of the Week for second week in a row.
Congratulations to Kuran Garner for being nominated for the Huntsville Region Player of the Week for January 21 - 26 and January 28 - February 1. Kuran scored 22 points as the Bucks beat Spain Park 57-47 to give coach Mark Blevins his 900th career win. For his week two nomination, Kuran scored 30 points in a 59-47 win over Sparkman. Both weeks, Kuran was one of twelve athletes nominated for outstanding performances of the week.

Outdoor Classroom Time
In February, we might have snow or 70-degree days. On the warm days, our teachers utilize the Outdoor Classroom to give lessons a breath of fresh air. Here, 7th grade English students work on creative writing with a focus on point of view.

Mrs. Sutherland’s students had a Banana Angle Tournament. Students had to estimate angles on a game, had to work their way to the championship. We discussed types of angles, measures of angles, and even did data analysis on our information.
