HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 2 Week 4 - 18 May
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As promised, the newsletter is with you today and not Friday which is a student free day. Following a big week of NAPLAN last week our Year Five Gang headed to Newman College to watch their production of Peter Pan, and returned to school quite inspired by what they had seen. It was a great success and we congratulate everyone who was involved in it. A report and a number of pictures can be found here:
http://www.newman.wa.edu.au/events/local-catholic-schools-taken-on-a-magical-journey.html Our sincere thanks to Newman college for inviting our children to this terrific performance.
At our lovely Mothers Day mass last week we took the opportunity to honour our Music Monitors Sofia McDonnell and Luke Meakins who do an amazing job of supporting our teacher of music, Michelle Kirwan. You will see them running our projector at mass. We also honoured our leading Altar Servers Sarah Johnston, Zach Maddaford, Cooper Stevens, Tabitha Stevens, Corey McFadgen, Ben Borgas and Ben Butson. All of these Year Six students are leading our school in important ways and we think that they, as part of our Student Leadership team, lead exceptionally well. We congratulate them, and we thank them for their roles in our school. Well done!
The journey for the sacrament of Confirmation is in train, with workshops on the evening of Wednesday 24 May, Commitment masses on the weekend of 27 and 28 May and the Retreat on Friday 2 June. Students then receive the sacrament on the weekend of 10 and 11 June. We wish them well! Keep them and their families in your prayers.
Have a great weekend

Don’t Just Teach Kids How to Code, Teach Them Algorithms, Too…
Coding is the cool kid right now, but there’s a lot more to computer science. Like algorithms, which are useful in life as well as online.
COLD & FLU SEASON
Influenza is a common, acute, respiratory, viral infection. Symptoms include fever, malaise, chills, headache, muscle pain, sore throat and cough. Please be aware that children should stay at home in the early stages of the illness as they are likely to be more infectious and transmit the virus to others via coughing, sneezing and contaminating surfaces that others touch.
They should remain absent until they are symptom free if they have a cold or flu.
Our annual Book Fair is super fun and raises money for our library, all of which is put towards the purchase of new books, and maybe even some more bean bags! Next Friday 26th, Monday 29th and Tuesday 30th, the Book Fair will run from 8am-4pm. There are still some spots on the parent help roster, outside the library window. These are only for an hour, before and after school and at lunchtime. Any help is much appreciated. Because of this, the chess tournament will have a recess until week 7. We wish our wonderful Sr Eileen a safe, happy and wonderful holiday home to Ireland, and can’t wait to hear about her adventures.

THE FAMILY BUSINESSES OF HOLY ROSARY

We are super excited to introduce the families of the businesses behind Holy Rosary. The P&F Committee has put together a Business Directory of school families and encourage everyone to use them. These businesses aim to support the P&F committee in the various projects they undertake.

GET TO KNOW JEFF.......
What do you do?
All facets of domestic renovation. Primarily kitchens, bathrooms and laundries but also outdoor renovation such as pergolas, paving and landscaping.
Why did you choose your profession?
I pretty much grew up on a construction site. My family renovated a lot so it seemed natural to me to choose a career in the building industry.
What was the last picture you took with your phone?
A shot of the backyard last Saturday night. We brought the camp site experience to the backyard with a small fire pit in the foreground and a few mates watching the footy in the background.
What is your perfect pizza?
Seafood pizza – but not so overloaded with toppings that it all slides off when you pick it up.
What is your favourite movie?
What is your favourite family tradition?
Fish and chips on a Sunday night.
What was your favourite family holiday spot?
We love camping. Our favourite spot was Jurien Bay but that has now been overtaken by Denmark. And Rotto…. Hmm, I can’t decide
West Coast or Fremantle?
Fremantle. Someone has to back them.
