Indian Education Program Needs Assessment Survey
If you haven't already filled one out, please take a minute to take the
Indian Education Program Needs Assessment survey.
Your feedback is important as we plan for the 2019-2020 school year.
Cherokee, Muscogee (Creek), & Seminole Cultural Sharing Night
Program will include:
- Potluck dinner
- Cultural demonstrations
- Presentations and activities begin at 6:15 pm and end at 8pm

Comanche, Kiowa, and Cheyenne and Arapaho Cultural Night
Everyone is invited to come learn about the Comanche, Kiowa, and the Cheyenne and Arapaho culture at Longfellow Middle School (215 N. Ponca Avenue) on February 26th from 6:00pm—8:00pm.
Program will include:
- Potluck dinner
- Cultural demonstrations
- Presentations and activities begin at 6:15 pm and end at 8pm

Citizen Potawatomi Nation Conservation Spring Break Camp
The Citizen Potawatomi Nation is hosting their 2019 Spring Break Conservation Camp in Shawnee at their Cultural Heritage Center. There is no cost for the students and lunch is provided. This is open to all incoming 6-8th graders and members of a federally recognized tribe.
This event is from 8:30am - 4:30pm on Wednesday, March 20 & Friday, March 22. Attendance on both days is not required.
If you have a student that would like to attend, please download the application below. Applications are due February 21 and must be e-mailed to kelli.mostellar@potawatomi.org with a photo copy of your tribal ID card. Twelve students will be chosen and announced on February 27.
UCO Native American Preview Day
Chipota Chikashshanompoli - Children Speaking Chickasaw Language Club
- Must be a Chickasaw citizen
- For ages 4-14
- 6-8pm
- Food and drinks provided
- Possible entry into the Oklahoma Native American Youth Language Fair
- Possibly perform at various tribal events.

4th Grade - Battle of the Books
This reading competition is for all Native 4th grade students. Students are encouraged to read 15 of the 2019 Sequoyah Oklahoma Library Association books and the list can be accessed by clicking here.
If you are a parent of a 4th grader, please encourage your student to choose these books to read before the competition. If you would like to help with a book club at your child's school, please contact our office. We need team sponsors and volunteers for our annual Battle.
Indian Education Highlights
Tdohasan Sunray who is a part of the Kiowa, Ponca, & Mowa Band of Choctaw Indians received a Gold Key award for his poetry he submitted to the Scholastic Art and Writing contest. Gold Key awards are awarded to the very best works and are automatically considered for national–level recognition. Congratulations Tdohasan!
Stevi Johnson, the 2017-2018 Jr. Miss Sac and Fox Nation Princess of Oklahoma, Absentee Shawnee, Sac and Fox, Creek, and Delaware Tribe received the Agent of Change award from Melania Trump for her work with Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA). Stevi is the youngest Native American female to participate as a trainer for CADCA's National Youth Leadership Initiative Training of Trainers. Great job Stevi!
