On a Serious Note-What is Bullying?
Bullying is an unacceptable action that can lead to life long trauma. Bullying, in Arizona, is also an offence that requires a report filed with law enforcement. Negative behaviors are a symptom, and students display bullying behaviors and mean behaviors for a reason. With that said, their behavior, regardless of the reason is unacceptable.
As an educational institution, we are responsible for providing a safe environment, in which students can learn, free from worry about being treated unkindly. We are also charged with teaching students how to shape negative behaviors, so that they can be the best possible versions of themselves, and become successful, competent and kind, caring adults. Therefore we must approach the topic from all angles.
In this article from stopbullying.gov, you can read about the differences between bullying and mean behaviors. https://www.stopbullying.gov/bullying/what-is-bullying
