Smart Cookies
Superintendent Dr. Lane Mills and Board of Education Chair Dr. Christine Fitch had a great time celebrating Smart Cookies at Gardners ES on Dec.11! They recognized the school's Teacher of the Year - Instructional Coach Ginger Garrou - and also some of the 3rd-5th graders she works with. Each student received a certificate, and everyone enjoyed cookies from Chick-fil-A!
Grants Awarded
ALL 26 of our Schools Give Back During the Holidays!
- Barnes ES staff collected clothes and gloves for students in need at the school.
Beddingfield HS students in the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy collected fuzzy socks for nursing home residents as well as toys for elementary school students.
Daniels Learning Center collected food and clothes for students in need at the school.
Darden MS students in The Gentlemen's Agreement supported students in need at the school.
Elm City MS Junior Optimist International (JOI) Club members led a drive and collected 385 food items for the Salvation Army and collected socks for nursing home residents.
Fike HS Health Club Members sang carols to residents at a local nursing home and students in the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy organized a holiday event for 100 at-risk elementary students.
Forest Hills MS staff collected coats, hats and gloves for students in need at the school.
Frederick Douglass ES collected 2,400 food items for the Salvation Army.
Gardners ES collected 2,791 food items for the Salvation Army.
Hearne ES collected 500+ food items for the Salvation Army.
Hunt HS Teacher Lisa Lewis led students and staff in a Penny Challenge and raised $667 for The Soup Kitchen and Family Food Basket.
Jones ES held a food drive for the Salvation Army.
Lee Woodard ES collected 802 food items for the Salvation Army.
Lucama ES second-graders held a Blanket Drive to benefit those in need at local shelters.
New Hope ES parents purchased toys and clothes for students in need at the school.
Rock Ridge ES students and staff donated food items to the Family Food Basket.
- Speight MS supported students in need at the school.
- Springfield MS band and general music students provided cards and gifts to Riley's Army.
- Stantonsburg ES held a Toy Drive for foster children in Wilson County.
- Toisnot MS supported a student and a staff member in need at the school.
- VICK ES staff supported two families at the school.
- Vinson-Bynum ES staff adopted a family with four students at the school.
- Wilson Academy of Applied Technology students in the Chick-fil-A Leader Academy adopted students at Hearne ES and purchased presents for them.
- Wilson Early College Academy students made goodie bags for residents of a local nursing home.
- Wells ES staff supported the students who receive meals on the weekends. They purchased something for the students to play with, to wear and to eat.
- Winstead ES second-graders held a Blanket Drive to benefit those in need at local shelters.
