THE SPEECH REACH
Mrs. Halliday's Speech Therapy info for November 2013
We are movin' and shakin' in Speech!
First let me say, we had a great assemby on Monday to honor Veteran's Day. Thank you to all that have served or currently serving our country...and their families! The kids did a great job and we thank everyone that was able to come. Now that we have been together for a few months, we are getting to know each other in our groups and really working hard on our goals. I had the chance to meet several of you at Parent/Teacher conferences and it was great to put faces with names/voices on the phone! If I missed you, I apologize. My schedule was packed with several meetings. Hopefully, you all received the progress notes from your child's IEP or a general progress note if they see me for interventions. If you have any questions about your child's progress, please call or email me anytime. As you know, this is my first year in this district. I am continuing to learn "the ins and outs" and attempting to keep organized...I tell ya, keeping organized is a tough one when you see 50+ kids! My hope in the future (hopefully near future) is to be able to send word lists/activity ideas home to practice your child's skills with you. Please know, I like to only send "homework" with those kiddos that I know already have their target sound in words or can do the language skill with me. If they are still working on the skill in therapy, I wait until it is stable before taking it home. I do not want to add to the stress of completing another thing at home that may be too difficult. I am really going to try and send home activities by the end of this month. Thank you for being patient as I figure everything out! Please see the list of upcoming events. Winter break will be here before we know it!
Upcoming School Schedule

Speech Ladder
For my students who are working on producing certain sounds correctly, I have created a speech ladder/speech flower for the students to track their own progress. We will take out these forms every month and see if the children are able to color another level. This helps draw awareness to what their goal is and where they are currently. The hierarchy is as follows; sound in isolation, sound in syllables, sound in all positions of words, sound in phrases, sound in sentences, sound in reading, sound in conversation. Ask your child if he/she knows where they are on the ladder/flower.
