May has arrived…

Greetings Woodcrest families,

May has welcomed us with sunshine, warmer weather and smiles across the school! It has been nice listening to your children share their stories from this last weekend and how they enjoyed the beautiful weather. A student in 2nd grade told me she was “excited to come to school and have recess in the hot weather!” She then put on a light pair of gloves and went outside. We may need to wait a bit for her hot weather.

Next week, we will be administering the MCAs to our 3rd and 4th grade students. We look forward to a smooth and simple test administration for all who are taking the exams. If you have specific questions about the MCAs please reach out to your homeroom teacher or the front office.

As many of you know, it is school staff appreciation week. It is a time we pause to recognize the accomplishments of each staff member and celebrate the good work they do for our community each day. If you want to participate and honor staff, please know that they always appreciate a note or a simple email. I am most grateful this year for the ways our staff have adapted and stayed focused on learning and relationships. This has not been an easy year for staff, students, or families and to see the deepening of relationships has been an inspiration.

In these final weeks of the school year, we continue our focus on health and safety. Thank you for the ongoing partnership between home and school to keep our schools open for learning.

Thank you,

John Franke

It's staff appreciation week at Spring Lake Park Schools and across the country. We couldn't be more proud of our school staff and the work they do each day to value, inspire and create a sense of belonging for our students. In a year of learning through a pandemic, they've adapted, collaborated, communicated and built relationships as never before. Día del Niño

Last week, students in Maestra Elisa's Pre-K class celebrated Día del Niño by breaking a piñata.

Here is a little information about the celebration:

Besides Mother's and Father's Day, children have a very special day too -- Día del Niño. Día del Niño, or children's day, is an annual celebration held on April 30 throughout Mexico.

It is a day when children should feel special. Usually, Mexico and other Latin countries will host festivals, music shows, magicians, special events with clowns, etc., and make this a very special day of celebration for the children. It is a festivity that is quite unique, full of laughter and play, and it is also when adults are reminded of the importance of childhood and children teach us (adults) how joyful and simple life can be.

Día del Niño is celebrated in Mexico, and in other Latin countries, but on a different date, such as: Colombia (April 24), Chile (August 8), Argentina (August 15), Bolivia (April 12), Ecuador (June 1), just to name a few.

Today we are thanking them for sticking with us through a sweet & salty year with snacks and drinks! We have two more surprises ready for Thursday and Friday. We hope everyone will show the pride we have in our staff by wearing school colors on Friday!
