A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL RICHARDSON
Dear O’Dell Bobcats:
As you may know, last week the district shared with all parents the latest safety and security information for the 2022-23 school year. While that was a lengthy email, the content is very important for all of our parents to review. If you have not read that email, I encourage you to do so, which was sent on Tuesday, September 6.
Because safety and security is vitally important, I would like to take this opportunity to remind all of our parents that if you see something, please say something. There are many avenues to share your concerns including our anonymous CrimeStoppers reporting tool. There is a link on the top of our district website at www.celinaisd.com. Additionally, please feel free to contact me at any time with those concerns so I may listen to you and determine the next steps to resolve those concerns.
With school safety always a community partnership, below is an important part of last week’s safety email I would like to highlight. For your convenience, below is that portion of the email for your review.
School Safety as a Community Partnership
Proactivity is an essential component of CISD’s comprehensive and multi-layered approach to school safety, and the district and campus leadership relies on the partnership of parents and our community to help keep students safe. All members of the community–students and adults–are encouraged to proactively monitor anything that may jeopardize the safety of students and campuses. We encourage the entire community to follow the adage, “If You See Something, Say Something,” by reaching out to a campus principal, an administrator, or the police if they believe students are at risk, especially if there is a concern that an adult is being inappropriate with a child.
The district recognizes that some people are not comfortable reporting concerns in person, and any student, parent, staff member, or community member may make an anonymous report using the district’s new CrimeStoppers system. This one-stop, seamless reporting system is available 24 hours a day for anyone who needs to report bullying, harassment, discrimination, campus or facility threats, self-harm, or harm to others. The link to this reporting system is available on the district web page and via QR codes on posters placed throughout campuses. The new system tracks all reports until they have been fully investigated, which also then serves as a form of campus and district accountability.
In closing, thank you for all your support and encouragement you provide to our teachers and staff each and every school day. O’Dell Elementary School is truly a special place and I am grateful to serve as your principal.

A Note From the Nurse
LICE PROTOCOL
The school year is in full swing, and with that may come some “uninvited guests.” We are all aware that lice spread mostly with elementary school-aged children, and O’Dell Elementary is no exception. With that being said, I want to remind everyone of our lice protocol:
- Students are only sent home if they have ACTIVE lice.
- Students who have nits may stay at school or be picked up if their guardians choose to do so.
- Both students who have nits and/or active lice need to receive treatment.
- Students who have ACTIVE lice may only return to school after proof of home lice treatment (ex: the top of the box) has been provided to the school nurse.
- Students who have nits need to show proof of treatment to the campus nurse within 2 days of notification.
- If a student is found to have ACTIVE lice, their homeroom class will be screened.
- The identity of students who have lice is confidential, and this information will not be shared.
Reporting Absences
The Counselor's Corner
This month we’re talking about the character trait of Respect. The definition we are using in class is:
Respect: seeing value in all people and things and treating them with care
Family Conversation Starters:
Talk about a time you felt disrespected and what you did about it in a way that demonstrated Respect.
Respect is about resolving conflicts peacefully, without violence. It requires listening to each other. How do you make sure that you’re really listening when you’re talking to someone? Is that harder to do when you don’t agree with them? Why? How can you get past not agreeing with their opinion, but still respecting who they are?
Family Challenge: Unplug and Plug-In
Agree as a family to set aside a certain time frame each day this week to unplug from devices and plug into family time. It shows Respect, for example, to not bring those phones to the dinner table. How does it feel to experience proximity and practice our manners face-to-face? When else can you unplug to show Respect?
