Count Down to the ACT and Pre-ACT
Team Columbia:
We are counting down to April 3 when our 11th grade students will take the ACT Plus Writing and out 10th grade students will take the Pre-ACT. We have been preparing students for this day. Our 11th grade students will be engaged in the ACT Seminars this Wednesday and Thursday. The seminars will cover Math, Science, Reading and English preparation and strategies. I am asking that English and Social Studies teachers give 11th grade students practice with the writing portion by having them respond to ACT-styled writing prompts.
Many students have participated in the various ACT activities we have had during the year, which shows their commitment to doing well on the exam. Many of you have been employing various ACT strategies in the classroom. We appreciate you being all-in in support of our school and students.
Please begin communicating to our 10th grade students the importance of the Pre-ACT. We want them to take the exam seriously. Their exams will be scored by ACT. We will use this data as a baseline as we prepare them for the ACT next school-year.
I know everyone is tired and is ready for a much needed break. Let's finish strong and enjoy Spring Break next week!
Thanks for all you do!!
As always, have a great week of teaching and learning!!

Attendance Procedures Update
- After our PD, we received a lot of helpful feedback. We will be making the following updates to the pupil referral procedures to further streamline the process:
- Advisory teachers will now be solely responsible for referring their students for all day unexcused absences (including the first semester).
- Teachers may also refer for their individual classes (excessive absences or tardies); however, this is not a requirement.
- Please read the updated FAQ for your assistance regarding our new schoolwide pupil referral process.
- Letter to Freshman Advisory Homerooms (Monday)
- Letters will be in advisory mailboxes for distribution during advisory.
- Students will need to initial receipt of the letter.
One-Drive Pupil Referral Document
- You will now only be able to filter the “person referred” column only to find your students. Remember, if you filter the document please be considerate of others and remove the filter from the document once you are finished entering your students.
- The issue with incorrect teachers being listed under the “advisory teacher” column should be resolved.
- Please review the FAQ document for information regarding the referral process.
- Remember, always use the SMORE to access the One Drive Pupil Referral Form.
