Welcome to the BHS Express
A newsletter keeping you informed about Batavia High School
Hello Bulldog Families.
We are excited to welcome in February and hopefully, a little of the sunshine that we’ve been promised this weekend! The gloomy weather has taken its toll on everyone, and we’re all looking forward to the projection of some warmer weather throughout the next 10 days! Here’s to hoping our Cincinnati meteorologists are accurate on this one!
There are a few reminders I would like to once again bring to your attention. Next Wednesday, February 7, 2024 is an event-filled day for BHS. Our students will be participating in the transition fair with a parent option from 2:30 p.m.-4:00 p.m. Please come check out many of the business partners who are willing to help your students with their post high school experiences. (Information is in the flier linked below.) This date is also important as this is our final Parent Teacher Conference time for the 2023-2024 school year. Please click on the link below to schedule your time slot. In addition, our mandatory College Credit Plus (CCP) meeting will be at 6:00 p.m. on February 7, 2024 with the opportunity for our students to learn about CCP and other academic opportunities offered at BHS.
We’re very excited to welcome speaker Nick Jackson of #IAMSPEAKLOVE to talk with all of our BHS students on Wednesday, February 14, 2024. Nick’s focus is on “Character Education for All” which is centered on the “belief that excellent character and unwavering love will allow us to reach our fullest potential, together.” How fitting that we are fortunate to schedule Nick on Valentine’s Day! For your reference, here is a link to review what your students will be attending on February 14th: https://www.iamspeaklove.com/about. If you would not like your student to attend this assembly, please reach out to BHS Assistant Principal, Matt Buis, at buis_m@bataviaschools.org. We will make sure your student attends a study hall during this time.
We hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
In service to our Bulldogs.

2024-25 FAFSA Update:
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for students entering or attending college for the 2024-25 academic year has undergone many changes, been updated for 2024, and is currently having a "soft launch". The website is up and running, but will be temporarily shut down occasionally for maintenance and updates. Any student that is thinking about attending any type of education/training after high school should complete the FAFSA - technical school, trade school, community college, public university, or private university. The FAFSA is what determines your eligibility for student loans, grants, work-study, and scholarships - thus, it is VERY important that you complete and submit it. Keep in mind, all students are at least eligible for student loans! We will continue to share information and helpful resources as they are received.
Here is the link to a short video that explains what the FAFSA is: What is FAFSA?
We have also included the link to a slightly lengthier video that explains the entire FAFSA application process and answers many of your questions: The 2024-2025 Financial Aid Process
The student, as well as the parents/guardians must have their own FSA ID to begin the FAFSA application process. Here is the link to create your FSA ID: https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch
Lastly, here is the link to begin your FAFSA application: StudentAid.Gov
