News From The Hoop
The Lady Roos rode the backs of Anna "AJP" Jefferson-Polk and Gabby "Big Nasty" Huggins Tuesday night as the Lady Roos defeated Fossil Ridge 49-28 at home. With that win the Lady Roos move into a second place tie with Keller as Keller fell to Abilene 41-40.
AJP lead the Lady Roos with 30 points, and Huggins dominated the paint with 12 points. Tyara "The sun is a planet" Buckner added 4, Syd "the Squid" Steffler added a deuce, and Nicole "I lost my exhaust system" Martinez added one!
The Lady Roos travel to 7-1 First place Timber Creek Friday night looking for a share of first place in district.
Lady Roos Soccer Update
JV Lady Roos end preseason with a 5-0 win against Azle. Great talent included: Payton Thibodeaux with the hat trick, Sara Strittmatter and Jordan Johnson round off the 5th, with assists from Ashley White, Mackenzie Haley, and Emma Groce, and Christina Long and Chelsea Embry with the shutout.
Varsity Lady Roos lost a heart breaker 0-1 to the Lady Hornets. Outstanding play came from freshman Michaela Bosco with 4 shots on the night. Defensively, Hailey Maloy held down the Lady Roos to keep the 1-0 score. Abbigail Fant had the shutout in the second half. The Lady Roos begin district play next Tuesday in a must win against Fossil Ridge.

Then last Friday night, Weatherford hosted Aledo Friday. Roos 2-1 winners. Special thanks to freshman Savannah Harvey for singing the national anthem at the start of both games.
JV goals were scored by Brandon Renteria on PK and a solo performance by Cameron Moore. JV won 2-1. Way to go Roos!
The Varsity Boys lost a close one 2-1 against Aledo. The Roos battled back from a 2-0 deficit in the second half with a goal from Waki Ebake off a cross from Levi Duvall. The Roos had several chances to tie the game game up, but ran out of time and came up empty with some great saves by their keeper. Great team effort! The Roos open up district on Tuesday at Fossil Ridge. Come out and cheer them on!

FFA Pulling Its Weight
The Weatherford FFA Tractor Technician Team has spent the last couple of weeks traveling and competing around southern and central Texas. The team competed in Gonzales, Wallis, and Waco. Highlights of the competitions included a sixth place team finish at Gonzales, and a second place team finish at the Area 5 competition at TSTC in Waco.
Jake Spooner was the high point individual in the Area 5 competition, as well. The team has earned a spot in the State Finals at the Houston Stock Show and Rodeo in March. These young agriculturists have done an outstanding job. Those traveling included Storm Weidler, Dalton Townsend, Katherine Zimmer, Hayden Johnson, Macy Glasscock, Mikenley McBride, and Jake Spooner.
FFA Herds Elementary Students At FTW Stock Show
Debaters Place in Winter UIL Invitational
Lincoln-Douglas debaters from the Weatherford High School Debate Team competed today against 38 other LDers from 12 area high schools at Trimble Tech High School’s Winter UIL Invitational.
Brannon Heltzel took 2nd place: 4-0, 118 total points.
Lauren White took 4th place: 4-0, 117 total points.

News from the Fightin' Roo Band
The Weatherford High School Winter Guards had their first competition for the North Texas Color Guard Association this past Saturday (1/27) hosted by Arlington Lamar HS. Both Groups had fantastic performances in there respected classifications. The Junior Varsity group performed their show "Home" using the song made famous by Phillip Phillips. They placed 5th overall in the Novice class and were 2 points away from being promoted to the next class.
The Varsity team placed 6th in the Regional A classification with their show called "Just Another Rainy Day" that uses three different songs to help the production go from a rain storm to a bright and sunny day. Both groups received positive feedback from the judges, and will continue to finish their shows before our next contest at Berkner HS in Richardson on February 10th. Please congratulate these kids on a job well done.

Seniors from WHS have been accepted to their dream schools!
Tammy Wilson was accepted to Gallaudet University in Washington D.C.. According to their website, "Gallaudet is the world's only university designed to be barrier-free for deaf and hard of hearing students".
Dillon Moore was accepted to Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY. The Rochester Institute of Technology website boasts that it "attracts students from every state and over 2,000 international students from more than 100 countries... Adding a social and educational dynamic not found at any other university are more than 1,300 deaf and hard-of-hearing students supported by RIT’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf."

Scholarship Opportunities
Weatherford College has opened its online scholarship application for 2018-2019. Students need to apply to Weatherford College prior to filling out the application. The Weatherford College Foundation gives out more than $240,000 in scholarships every year. Be sure not to miss out on this valuable opportunity. The deadline to apply is March 24, 2018.
Seniors, the Ford Driving Dreams Scholarship for $2,000 is now available and the deadline to apply is February 12. This scholarship is available for students who are planning to attend a two-year or four-year college. Students must have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, submit one letter of recommendation, have a minimum of 1050 on the SAT or 20 on the ACT, upload a high school transcript, and upload an essay on “What Drives Your Dream” (500 words or less). Flyers are available in the Counseling Center. Last year, five students from WHS received this $2,000 scholarship!
