Weekly Newsletter - March 13, 2020
Hello RHE families!
This is an incredibly challenging and strange time. We all have our concerns that are specific to our unique personal and professional situations. Thus, it's so important for me to communicate that your children had a very positive week of school. They were engaged and learning, and they were having fun. Despite all that was going on outside of the school, RHE was and will remain a safe place for the children. The staff and I consider it a privilege and responsibility to take care of the children, and your support during challenging weeks makes a positive difference.
As RHE works with the school district to gauge the impact of the coronavirus, the staff and I will be taking steps to ensure that learning will continue. While a student's presence in the classroom cannot easily be replaced, we will be making accommodations to allow for meaningful work to continue. Today, the teachers are working on the Council Rock Distance Learning plan to provide a successful implementation should that need arise.
Some of the work students would need involves access to resources. Therefore, in the coming days your son/daughter might bring home some additional tools. Resources like an independent reading book, specific skill sheets, packets, and more, might strengthen a teacher’s Distance Learning plan. The materials sent home will vary depending upon the age and grade of your child. Again, some staff members may send home materials and others will utilize technology resources or a combination of both.
Our goal is to be prepared while maintaining the focus on our educational values and to keep a level head throughout this fluid situation. While the learning may look different, our teachers are ready to provide support and instruction.
We believe that preparation is an important component to success. For this reason, I’m informing the RHE community that we have taken these steps not in anticipation of a closure, but instead to be confident that we are ready and responsive if that need arises.
Please know that the purpose of this email is to be informative in nature and to provide you with some details of our plan. If our school routine is disrupted, appropriate communication will be disseminated to the community via the district or by me directly to explain the Distance Learning plan in greater detail.
This information continues to evolve. As I receive updated information from the school district, I promise to keep everyone informed and updated. As always, thank you for your ongoing trust and support.
Sincerely!
Sam
Here’s what’s in store at RHE next week…
Frozen Jr.
I want to thank Mrs. Jaffe, Mrs. Molden, Miss Staffieri, Mr. Schmoyer, Mr. Francis, the staff volunteers (the list is extensive), the students, and the many parent volunteers who brought Frozen Jr. to life.
Thank you to the RHHSA for sponsoring the school play. It is truly a team effort and our partnership is greatly appreciated!
My favorite part of this production was seeing the kids become confident and proud of their role in the performance. I am so proud of the team and our children. The commitment they made from the first practice until the last show, the hard work involved while still maintaining their studies, and the relationships formed with each other throughout the entire process is what makes this such a worthwhile experience. The bonds and memories created will last a lifetime!
Thank you again for your support and encouragement!
Book Bowl
Mrs. Gannon and our teachers are currently working on a plan to hold a mini version of the Book Bowl here at RHE during the school day. Information will be shared as soon as we are able.
School and RHHSA Events and Volunteers
For now, all RHHSA events and before/after school activities are postponed. Please see an excerpt from Dr. Fraser's email. More detailed information pertaining directly to RHE will be sent soon.
Finally, also beginning tomorrow and extending at least through Spring Break, we are stopping all volunteering and outside visitor activity in all of our schools. In instituting this change, we are limiting our school attendance to students and school staff only (other than the need for a parent to visit the main office or attend a meeting in a nearby conference room). This decision has been made in order to contain the community spread in order to protect our students and staff. Also in the category of containing community spread and protecting our students and staff, effective tomorrow we are halting all outside group facility usage during evenings and on the weekends. Within the school day, we will also be limiting, to the extent possible, large-group student gatherings, large-group staff gatherings, and school-to-school student visits.
