MMA Monday Montessori Moments

A Message from our Director, René Baker
Year in Review
I want to thank all the staff, families, and students for a great year at Maria Montessori Academy. We are so proud of our students and their amazing accomplishments this year.
Ninth grade graduation was an opportunity for teachers and students to celebrate together before our students move on to a new school adventure. This year MMA’s Girls Cross Country team were co-champions in the Ogden league. Students, staff, and parent volunteers experienced trips to Crow Canyon and the Alliance Redwoods. Students participated in the Art, Dance, and Choir shows. Our Junior High teachers received the Middle School Team of the Year award from the UT Middle Level Association. Literacy Night and the International Festival were two impressive displays of student work and learning.
The MMA board and I are excited to welcome students next year into our beautiful new building. The MMA addition will house the Junior High classes as well as all elementary art and music classes. We cannot wait to see our students perform and play in the new gym and stage space. We know that parents, staff, and students will find the large welcoming commons area and bright classrooms conducive to building a strong MMA learning community. I would be amiss if I did not thank MAPA for their generous contribution of $10,000 towards the purchase of a new playground.
This year has been an amazing year for faculty and staff professional development. I am grateful for the commitment and resources the MMA board has given to the following professional development activities.
- 7 Junior High teachers attended training for their Montessori certification in Cincinnati beginning summer 2017 and will continue through next school year
- 4 individuals attended UT Montessori Council (UMC) Conference in Salt Lake City in February
- 4 individuals attended Montessori Educational Programs International (MEPI) Conference in South Carolina in February
- 10 individuals attended American Montessori Society (AMS) Conference in Denver in March
- 14 individuals attended Crisis Prevention training in January
- 10 individuals attended a Resilience Training Workshop in Salt Lake City in April
- UT Middle Level Association (UMLA) Conference was attended by Junior High teachers
- This summer we are excited to have teachers collaborating on refining Montessori materials
I hope that each student has a special memory from this school year and I want to thank all the MMA parents for supporting their students and MMA. I am grateful to be a part of such a beautiful learning community. I look forward to seeing everyone next year. As always, if you have any questions this summer - please feel free to call or e-mail me.
And the Winner is . . .
