Principal's Message
Dear Sequoia Families,
Our Read-A-Thon was a great success! We raised $8,500+ going directly back to Sequoia! Our two highest earning classrooms were Mrs. Palmer/Mrs. Byrum's 1st grade class and Ms. Bills' 6th grade class. Both those classes have earned a pizza party with me next week. I also set a reading goal for our students to read 10 million words during the 2 week read-a-thon. Our student body read over 11 million words and each class earned an extra 20 minute recess with me! Way to go Sequoia Giants!!
We are so lucky at Sequoia to have such a large, beautiful garden. Students and staff get to enjoy it on a daily basis for fun and learning. Our garden also requires a lot of upkeep and planning in order for our children to enjoy it throughout the year. Historically, we've had a parent volunteer who would coordinate lessons, a garden schedule, planting, weeding, and more. I feel grateful for the parents that have volunteered their time to do this over the years and this year we've been lucky to have Tara Bello as our garden coordinator. She's done a wonderful job of making our garden accessible to students and providing engaging lessons and activities each week. Unfortunately, she will be leaving this position as her child is a 6th grader and moving on to middle school. I'd like to try something new for next year. Instead of one parent volunteering to run our garden program, I'd like to have a small group of parents who would like to work together to help coordinate lessons, time in the garden, upkeep and all the things that our large garden requires. If you are interested, please email me and let me know (bclark@rvusd.org). The garden is a wonderful way to volunteer your time and be part of our school community.
We will celebrate the learning and growth students have made this year at our annual Open House on Wednesday, May 23rd. We will have Coldstone Ice Cream for sale in the MPR starting at 6:00pm. (Please look below to volunteer to scoop ice cream). Classrooms will be open from 6:30-7:30pm. The library will be open for a $5 book sale as well as a book swap for new or gently used books. Open House night will be a great opportunity to see all your child has been up to this year! Hope to see you there!
There are several events happening in the next two weeks and we need many volunteers! Please look at the events below and consider volunteering your time. We can't do what we do without your help and we so appreciate all the ways you support our school!
