New and Improved: Energy Sources

Overview

A new form of producing energy has been discovered by a group of scientists from the University of Science and Things. Physicists McKenzie Craft, Julianne Hatchett, and Emma Grunden have discovered the process of making energy called nuclear fusion. This new energy source is what is believed to be the source of energy for the Sun.

How does it work?

The process of nuclear fusion requires two or more atomic nuclei to be forced to fuse together. These atomic nuclei are most commonly uranium, plutonium, deuterium, and tritium since those elements work the best. This is only one form of nuclear energy. Nuclear fission is another form of nuclear energy. It is different from nuclear fusion since, instead of bringing atoms together, it splits them.

How will it help?

This new form of energy does not pollute the atmosphere like the other energy sources we use do. Nuclear fusion produces more energy than its competitors while also using less materials than them. This resource is also more proficient than fossil fuels, with a minimum of 502 megawatts being produced by a single reactor.

Some Safety Concerns and Precautions

This new energy source does come with a downside though. It is very toxic and produces radiation. To prevent this from spreading, it requires a high-cost containment system. If you want to ensure your safety from the possibility of radiation, live (maybe) ten miles away from the nuclear power plant. When working in a nuclear plant, it is best to wear special clothing to protect from radiation.
