Happy 2019 Acorn Community Families!
It’s hard to believe that we are in a new calendar year and halfway through our school year. I hope you all enjoyed some fun family time over the winter holiday break. We spent lots of time snuggled up in front of the fire reading books and watching Christmas movies. My two older children have just started to get into the Harry Potter books, it has been so fun to read them again with my kids and watch them imagine all of the magic in Harry Potter. George has been enjoying lots of Berenstain bears books and the Grinch book over winter break.
Parents are often asking me what they can do at home to support their children in school, the simplest answer is READ! In a Children’s literacy class in College I read The Read-Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease, this book has been one that I have continued to lean on both as an educator and a parent since my time in school. A book that was recently recommended to me from another parent is The Read-Aloud Family by Sarah Mackenzie. While I have not finished this book yet, I am about halfway through it and loving it! These books rededicate me to taking time from the craziness of each day making dinner, packing lunches, and doing laundry to connect with my children by reading with them. If we can create lovers of reading we have given our children the tools they need to make it in the world.
I wish you lots of love and joy in 2019!
Sincerely,
Megan, Beth, and Glenda
