Wolf Creek Weekly
Building Pathways To Success
From The Principal's Desk August 28, 2022
Greetings WCES!!
Thanks for an awesome week! We have had a great 3 weeks. We ROSE! Did you know? We are a RISE UP school and support our home team Atlanta Falcons! We have a little fun celebrating our home teams throughout the year with Falcon's Fridays before a game and of course we love our World Champions, Atlanta Braves! Let's have some fun!
Our schoolwide theme this year is L.E.A.D. - Leaders Encourage and make A Difference! Students and staff are all charge with Blooming Where They Are Planted this year. This year we will all L.E.A.D. in our respective areas and help move our school from GREAT to Greater! We are excited to see each and every Wolf Creek stakeholder L.E.A.D. this year. We are looking forward to partnering with you as we promote excellence and leadership in our school.
The students look great in their uniforms. Be reminded, we are a uniform school. Our students wear kelly green, navy blue or white polo style tops and khaki bottoms. Many of them rock "funky" socks and shoes of their choice with their uniforms and it looks very cool! Try it to help engage your child in the uniform initiative. We appreciate your support in participating in our uniform initiative. http://wearmeuniform.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=129_154
Please review the dress code for students:
SCHOOL UNIFORM DRESS CODE We dress for success at WCES! Students in the Fulton County school system are expected to dress and groom in such a way as to reflect neatness, cleanliness, and safety. All students should dress appropriately so as not to disrupt or interfere with the educational program or the orderly operation of the school. WCES students and staff participate in a school wide uniform program. Students are strongly encouraged to wear uniforms Monday through Thursday. Uniform bottom (pants/skirt) color is khaki which may be worn with a navy blue, kelly green, or white top. There is not a uniform shoe color or type requirement. Fridays are school spirit days and we ask that all stakeholders support this community by wearing WCES t-shirts and jeans. Attire that is inappropriate include:
• Any “short-short” attire (shorts, skirts, dresses that do not pass the finger-tip-test)
• Spaghetti straps
• Strapless shirts
• Tight fitting apparel
• Leggings without shirts that cover appropriately
• Clothing with inappropriate advertisements
• Pants/shorts worn below the waistline
• Flip flops and/or strapless shoes
• Halter-tops or shirts exposing the midriffs
• Frayed jeans or holes in jeans that show skin
• "see-through" clothing or apparel which designates gangs or similar organizations or any dress that is disruptive to the educational process
School Administration will make reasonable accommodations regarding a student's religious beliefs and/or medical condition. In support of our learning environment, we also ask that all adults, parents and visitors wear appropriate attire in the building. We are role models for our students, and we always set an example for them. We asked that all stakeholders dress appropriately so as not to disrupt or interfere with the educational program or the orderly operation of the school. No sleepwear or pajamas, revealing attire, or clothing with profane/inappropriate language, please.
We ask that parents review the Parent Student Handbook in its entirety. The handbook is attached for your reference. Important information is included that addresses a few topics addressed over the past few weeks: ie. birthday parties, dress code, tardies, grading policy
Please review the WCES PBIS bus behavior matrix included in this newsletter with your child. Students are expected to behave appropriately on the school bus. Inappropriate behavior leads to safety concerns. We want all students to enjoy a safe ride to and from school. See the FCS safety video at the link included here:

COVID 19 - We are seeing an uptick in positive COVID cases. We are continuing to exercise safety pre-cautions by encouraging hand-washing, use of hand sanitizer, and encouraging students to wear masks. Students are allowed to bring water bottles and fill them at designated times during the school day. If your child is sick or exhibiting any COVID symptoms, please do not send them to school. Report all positive cases to the parent portal.
Curriculum updates: Included in this correspondence is an overview of our new ELA textbooks and curriculum. We are excited about the Literacy growth this year!

Though the car rider line will remain somewhat long, the flow of traffic moves faster as parents receive car rider decals. School Nutrition Department - Welcome to the Café SY22-23!
Dear Parent or Guardian,
Children need healthy meals to learn! The School Nutrition Program will have all 97 commercial kitchens operating on the first day of school so that students can receive breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Approximately 71,000 meals will be served every day this school year.
Fulton County Schools offers healthy meals daily at a reasonable price. At elementary schools, the price for breakfast is $1.10 and lunch is $2.45. For middle and high schools, the price for breakfast is $1.25 and lunch is $2.70. Students may qualify for free meals or reduced-price meals. The reduced price is $0.30 for breakfast and $0.40 for lunch.
Families are strongly encouraged to pay for student meals through the MyPaymentsPlus online payment system. Parents can put money on their student’s account for meals and/or extra sales, view account balances and purchase history, and set up low-balance reminders by visiting www.mypaymentsplus.com. Cash or check payments can also be made at your student’s school.
· General Accounts: Allows students to purchase any items, including snacks.
· Meals Accounts: Allows students to purchase breakfast and lunch only, no snacks.
· There is a 4.29% transaction fee for using MyPaymentsPlus
The Free & Reduced Meal Benefits Program is a part of the National Child Nutrition Program. This program makes Free or Reduced priced meals available to qualifying households. Qualifications are based on the gross income of all household members and the number of persons living in the house. A NEW application must be completed for the 2022-2023 school year.
Due to COVID-19 National Waivers, families did not have to complete an application during the last school year. However, these waivers are no longer in effect, and all families must complete an application for SY22-23 if they wish to be considered for free and reduced meal benefits this year.
The household is responsible for payment of meals until the Free and Reduced Application is approved. These fees will begin on the first day of school. Free & Reduced Meal Applications are available anytime online beginning July 25, 2022. Visit www.fulton.schoollunchapp.com to start the online application process. Families may obtain a paper application from any school cafeteria. If able, families are encouraged to complete an online application to help expedite the application approval process.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the Fulton County School Nutrition Program at 470-254-8960 or schoolnutrition@fultonschools.org.

Lunch Applications
Parents, we are encouraging families to complete a lunch application this year. Preliminary data shows a very low percentage of families have completed an application. Our number of meal charges has increased. We want every child that qualifies to have access to a healthy breakfast and lunch daily. Parents will begin receiving notices 2-3 times per week about charge balances. It will be important to take care of these balances to avoid students receiving an alternate meal. Our current free and reduced lunch percentage is 46.69 % from school year 2021. This rate directly correlates to our Title 1 status. The determination of Title 1 funding and support is based on our Title 1 status. Thanks for your support.
Please contact our school Cafeteria Manager, Yolanda Dixson for more information. dixsony@fultonschools.org

Greetings Parents, Guardians and Students,

Here Comes The Bus!
Program FAQs
Here Comes the Bus has how-to videos for using the app on a mobile device and a computer.
How do I sign up?
- Download the Here Comes The Bus app on Google Play or the Apple App Store or visit www.herecomesthebus.com.
- Click the "Sign Up" button
- Enter school code: 87428
- Click "Next" followed by "Confirm"
- Complete the "User Profile" box
- Under "My Students," click "Add." Enter your child's last name and student ID number
- Once you confirm you information, you're ready to go!
How does "Here Comes the Bus" work?
"Here Comes the Bus" uses global positioning system (GPS) technology to locate and track your child’s school bus. It is powered by software from Synovia Solutions, who are experts at tracking data, which they’ve been providing to fleet managers across North America for over 15 years.
How much does it cost?
"Here Comes the Bus" is available at no cost to all families. It's free!
Do I need separate accounts for each of my children? Or separate accounts if we all want to be notified separately?
You and your children can access all the information about the buses you need using just one "Here Comes the Bus" account.
Is the information private and secure?
"Here Comes the Bus" uses HTTPS, just like a bank or online store, which means that all communications between your web browser and the site is encrypted and secure. (That’s what the S in “HTTPS” stands for – secure.)
I saw a Student Ridership feature on the app. Does Fulton County Schools use this?
Student Ridership is student-tracking software that can be accessed through the "Here Come the Bus" app. It enables parents to see when their child has scanned on and off the bus. At this time, Fulton County Schools has not decided to offer this option.
Can I view the website in a language other than English?
Yes. The "Here Comes the Bus" program was created by Synovia Solutions, and the company has made the website available in Spanish and French. If your computer is already set to display one of these languages, the website will automatically use the same language. Otherwise, you can change the language by clicking the current language (such as English) at the top right of the web page.
