4-H Gives Big

From Sidney to Falls City, Nebraska 4-H youth have been “giving big” to local communities. In 2014, communities benefitted from 726 youth/adult volunteers and 41 4-H clubs, giving 2,084 hours to local service projects with a value of $41,690. In 2015 and beyond, we want to grow Nebraska 4-H community service efforts and make them even bigger!

You are invited to be a part of a new community vitality effort by Nebraska 4-H. #4HGivesBig is a statewide weekend of service provided for Nebraska communities by Nebraska youth. The event will cultivate youth leadership and engagement, and foster community partnerships. Join the mission on October 3-4, 2015 – two days to make a difference.

Anyone can be involved – 4-H members, non 4-H members, 4-H alumni, friends, parents, volunteers, etc. #4HGivesBig provides two days for anyone in the community to work together to make a difference. You can work alone, with friends, as large groups, or collaborate with community organizations to serve your service mission. The project can be as small as cleaning up leaves in the park or as large as creating a service project that will last beyond the two days. Options are endless.

Post to social media using #4HGivesBig to allow everyone to follow your project. Join the mission and report your project at 4h.unl.edu/4hcommunityserviceprojectmap by clicking on “New Project” at the bottom of the page on the right. For more information, contact the Nebraska Extension Sheridan County office.

4-H Clubs in Sheridan County are contributing by having a Coat and Blanket Drive. The Hooves and Heart Club will be collecting them at the youth football game on October 3rd at 9 am.

4-H Week

4-H Week is October 4th through the 10th. This year to celebrate the week, the 4-H After School programs will participate in the National Youth Science Day Motion Commotion. Youth will work with physics and apply it to distracted driving. The experiment will take place in Rushville on Tuesday, October 6th and in Gordon on Wednesday, October 7th.

4-H members are encouraged to wear their 4-H t-shirts during the week and remember to thank the 4-H volunteers when you see them!
