Vocabulary Words

Skull- The bones of the head that surround and protect the brain. Ribs- Narrow bones that curve around around the body from the spine in back to the breast bone in front. Ribs protect the organs inside.  Humerus- The long bone of the upper arm that extends from shoulder to elbow. Vertebrae- Bones that form the backbone. Phalanges- Any bone in the fingers or toes. Femur- The long bone of the leg extending from the hip to the knee and supporting the thigh

The Skeletal System Facts

The adult human skeletal system consists of 206 bones, as well as a network of tendons, ligaments and cartilage that connects them. The skeletal system performs vital functions — support, movement, protection, blood cell production, calcium storage and endocrine regulation — that enable us to move through our daily lives.
