Hello Families,
Our last week of rocks has been quite eventful as we have talked about the types of rock that come from volcanoes and some theories of how dinosaurs long ago may have become extinct. Our children showed great interest in making their own “volcanoes”. Among other things, they also had a great time engaging in a “human-size” tic-tac-toe on the playground; in which they taught each other strategies of how to make a line with X’s and O’s and patterning.
During our ‘Read-Alouds’, our students had the chance to learn about fossils as well as engage in learning about parts of a book and whether it is fiction or nonfiction when we read Harry and the Hot Lava, Fossils tell of long ago, and Dinosaurs Roar. They watched a few short videos describing the dinosaours and how volcanoes erupt as well, which are attached below for them to watch again.
Next week we will begin our study of Trees and Flowers. Nature is always a great interest to each child. We will begin by asking them what they know about trees and what do they want to find out. If they have any tree or other nature parts that they would like to share with the class or Discovery Area, we encourage them to bring them or take photos as well. We will also focus on features of the books and we will talk about our author.
