8th Grade Announcement: Veteran's Day
Veteran's Day is Wednesday, November 11. We will meet for morning prayer in school families (instead of by class). The Cub Scouts, led by Boy Scout Nico Manes, will be leading a presentation of the flag, and a veteran speaker will lead our prayers. Stars honoring veterans will be posted by the 8th graders on our Wall of Heroes in the gym.
On Wednesday, November 11, we will allow students free dress - attire in red, white, and blue - but please be mindful that there is an Open House, so students and teachers should not be too casual in their attire.
We are hoping to celebrate Veteran's Day with all the honor and glory it deserves. Thank you to all those who have served our country.
Teacher Collaborations Meets Service Learning
Give educators two days to collaborate and big ideas turn into clear goals and valuable results. On November 2nd and 3rd, MJS faculty expanded on the service learning workshop they attended in August to define and structure realistic grade level projects for the year ahead. With big ideas and anticipation for building on the student experience, teachers used the time to clarify objectives, build interdisciplinary connections, structure timelines and look honestly at the scope and breadth of each proposed project. Great progress was made in the planning process and all are looking forward to engaging students and watching the projects unfold.
Sumerian City State
Students are creating their own Sumerian City State based on what they are learning about Mesopotamia
Problem Solve
Students must problem solve the same way the ancient civilizations did.
Defense and Trade
They must designing an irrigation system, set up defense and trade with neighboring city states.
OLG Thanksgiving Reach Out
To help supplement food for the Thanksgiving Break for the students of OLG and Blessings in a Backpack, the sixth grade will be having a canned soup drive. See Flyer below. We are also hoping to supply 6 of the families with a Thanksgiving Meal. We already have 2 Turkeys donated. If your family would like to contribute to one of the 6 Thanksgiving meals please email Ms. White and include what you would like to donate. For more information talk to your 6th grader.
