HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 2 Week 4 - 22 May 2020
Hello everyone and a MASSIVE thank you for your help and support in ensuring our students have had a smooth transition back into normal schooling.
It has been a great week here, lots of sunshine, fun and learning and I have been really fortunate to get out into the rooms to see first hand how our students have settled in. Students are obviously thriving being back into the routine of school, interacting with their friends and teachers and having fun out in our beautiful school. Our grounds, and in particular the grassed areas, are looking fantastic and they are loving being out with Rob in the cool air and bright sunshine.
We are all focused and working hard on giving children plenty of rich opportunities to engage with the curriculum, differentiating for various needs and abilities, supporting children’s transition back into friendship groups and overseeing each student’s sense of wellbeing and feeling of belonging. This is by no means easy, but I really believe our staff are doing a great job. Please remember that communication is always key and if you are worried about how your child has settled back in, please get in touch with their teacher.
Here at HR, staff are also transitioning back into their normal Professional Development cycle. Our focus has now turned from remote learning towards creating a variety of activities that assess student learning and will help to create accurate and meaningful reports for parents that align with the West Australian Curriculum. Behind the scenes we are working collaboratively with Catholic Education WA, SEQTA (Reporting Software) and staff to create the appropriate templates that will capture student achievement in Semester 1.
Our Reports will look slightly different this semester and teachers will only report on content they feel they have enough evidence on, however, we will also be organising for Parent/Teacher meetings later in Term 3 to ensure parents are up-to-date with their child’s progress once we have a good block of teaching and learning behind us.
Drive-through and our Neighbours
A special thank you to all families for your patience, understanding and goodwill during this time of extended drive-through. I have loved your affirming comments through the window each morning!
Next week the weather forecast is for wet weather, with Monday predicted to be squally. If your child has a rain jacket this is probably a good idea. Staff will be armed with umbrellas and we will be doing our very best to keep children as dry as possible getting out of and into cars. This weather will undoubtedly mean that drive-through will take a little longer than usual, so please model patience with your child and some empathy for the staff!
With the rules and guidelines surrounding drop off and pick ups can I please ask parents who are using the Angelico St entrance to be mindful of parking on our neighbours lawns, particularly where signage exists or they specifically ask us not to. With the extra traffic we are experiencing a large number of calls about broken sprinklers and dead grass. Most of all, please be respectful of the neighbours if they do ask you to move your car. I understand that this is a frustrating situation for everyone. There are lots of parking bays at Hale Hockey which is just a few hundred meters up Williamstown Road and a nice walk down the hill. The drive-through is also an option for all students. We will always have staff to escort young students to class if this is the option being used. For parents on a time limit, it is a quick option in the morning and we have been getting everyone through before 3.20pm in the arvo!
I hope you all have an excellent weekend and make the most of the sunshine on Saturday. Unfortunately, I thought it would be a good idea to take a jackhammer to my laundry and bathroom so I will be installing the new cabinets this weekend. Please cross your fingers I get them in with the new back door on before the storms come through!
Next week we will be sending out Absentee letters for unexplained absences from the beginning of Term 1. If you receive one please put a reason for the absence in the space provided e.g. sick, learning from home or attending an appointment. There may be many days listed as absent as parents were not sure what was happening during the last weeks of the term. Please understand we must have a reason we can enter in SEQTA to satisfy our auditors at the School Audit later this year.
Thank you for your co-operation in this matter.
Thank you to all the families who have returned Payment Plan forms for School Fees. There are still a number of families who have yet to return their forms. Can you please do so immediately. The returned forms help the school in predicting cash flow for the year.
If you are unsure whether you have returned your form or would like to discuss Payment Plan of school fees, please contact Laurie in the office, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday or email firstname.lastname@example.org .

What a wonderful library re-opening we had this week! It was fantastic to see so many smiles and happy readers. I hope everyone enjoyed choosing their own books. Library borrowing has returned to original class times and days, and our students have been truly awesome at helping to keep the library a safe space for all. Sadly we did have a number of water/food damaged books this week. Students will need an official Holy Rosary library bag to borrow books as this is the best place to keep them dry and clean. Next Wednesday is National Simultaneous Storytime, where the whole of Australia will read ’Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas’ at 11am. It’s going to be a fun day!
