Principal's Message

Dear Parents,

It was wonderful that so many families were able to attend PTA's Welcome Back Picnic. October is National Safety Month. Some highlights include our annual Red Ribbon Week sponsored by our fabulous PTA and Fire Safety education for our K-2 students. We will also participate in Digital Citizenship Week, October 18-22. Included will be an activity that helps educate our students on how to positively behave on the Internet.

On October 4th, we have our Evacuation Drill to Merrick Avenue Middle School in the morning. That afternoon we will have our Early Dismissal Drill. Kindergarten students will be dismissed at 2:30pm and students in grades 1-6 will be dismissed at 2:35pm. We kindly ask that you are prompt in meeting your children at these times.

Our next PTA meeting will be at 7:30 pm. on Tuesday, October 18th in person. I hope you can join us. Also, don’t forget to check our calendar for the various PTA-sponsored activities planned for our students and families.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me. I am looking forward to an OUTSTANDING October!

Sincerely,

Hillary Bromberg Ed.D.

Important Reminder About Arrival at 8:15 am

Upon arrival at 8:15 am, please remember to drive up to the teacher in the traffic circle. If there is space, we ask that you drive past the cross walk so that we can move the cars more efficiently from Merrick Avenue. Parents should remain in their cars as they drop off their children in the circle. We also noticed some parents allowing their children to cross Merrick Avenue rather than waiting to turn into the traffic circle. This is not advised for the safety of the children. I know the arrival procedures are not ideal, but we thank you for your patience as we look out for the safety of our students.

Important Reminder about Absences

Please be reminded that regular school attendance is not only mandated by law, but is a key ingredient for educational success. Legal reasons for absences include: illness, death in family, court appearances, and observance of religious holidays. If your child is frequently absent due to illness, you will be contacted and medical documentation may be requested.

All other absences will be considered unexcused or truant. Please also be aware that lateness to school can be considered partial truancy and is monitored as closely as absences. Chronic lateness is disruptive to the students in the class, the teacher, and most importantly, to the child. Parents and guardians are asked to contact the school to report each absence. This can be done by calling our Absentee Line at 516-379-3733. If you are requesting classwork and/or homework for your child on the day of the absence, please leave that message with the nurse or on the absence line. Students are requested to submit a written and signed excuse note for each absence when they return to school.

International Walk to School Day

Camp Avenue will participate in "International Walk to School Day" again this year. We invite you to walk or ride your bike to school on October 12, 2022 (weather permitting). Students will be handed a piece of chalk to write their name or a positive message on the walkway to the school so we can "Chalk the Walk"!

Red Ribbon Week

Red Ribbon Week will be observed October 24-28. More information will follow shortly.

Halloween Parade

We will be having our annual Halloween Parade at Camp Avenue on October 31st at 9:00 am. Please join us in cheering on our students as they parade around the field in their costumes(weather permitting). Please keep in mind that weapons and masks for costumes will not be allowed in school.

That day we will also have our PTA Fall Festival for our students only. It should be a fun and festive day!

Book Fair

Our first school book fair is going to be the evening of October 13th and during the day on October 14th. If you would like to have your child make book purchases at the fair, please remember to send money that day. We would like to minimize the number of calls home for book fair money.
