A Message From Principal Choquette 5/31/19
Dear Families,
It's hard to believe there are only 2 weeks of school left! We have so many things going on over the next two weeks from field trips to graduation. Please make sure you mark all of the upcoming events on your calendars!
On Tuesday, June 4th we will be holding an "official opening" of our new library. This renovation was made possible by the generous donation of Dr. Melvin Hershkowitz. We hope you can join us from 3:30-4:15 on Tuesday to thank him for all that he has given to BSS in celebration of the life of his daughter, Marie. The PTO will be serving light refreshments. If you are interested in providing refreshments, please sign-up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0d4dafaa23a3fb6-bookthemed
Our last day of school is on June 14th. It is a half day of school with dismissal being at 12:20 p.m. Students will receive their final report cards on that day as well as their class placement for next year. Please be advised that class placements can change over the summer depending on new students moving in. If your child's class placement needs to change, we will contact you. Students will also participate in move-up day that morning.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Pollinator Garden
Want to help with the BSS pollinator garden? Installation will take place Saturday, June 8, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. (rain date is Sunday, June 9, 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m). Please RSVP if you can join us by contacting Jessica at jessicatimetrader@gmail.com.
If you would like to participate in the Bridge Street School Pollinator Garden fundraiser and potentially win a butterfly garden for your home, the home of a family member or friend, simply choose how many tickets you would like to purchase (1 for $2, 3 for $5, or 7 for $10) and return your check or cash to the Bridge Street School office by Thursday, June 6th. The winner will be drawn on Friday, June 7th. For more information about the Pollinator Garden Raffle, call Jessica at 413-727-3295. If you would like to participate in the raffle, and are experiencing financial hardships, please see me or email me at bchoquette@northampton-k12.us.
GOTR-Today after school!
Tonight!
Hope to see you all there!
Walking School Bus
Without these wonderful people, there simply would be no WSB. So if you see our yellow-vested friends, please take a moment to say "thank you" for their generous contributions to the WSB and our school community.
We can't wait to continue the WSB with them in the fall!
SASH-Northampton High Schoolers
Bridge Street School families,
We would love to invite any and all interested 4th and 5th graders to join our student-run after school program, SASH. SASH is a program that teaches and encourages social emotional learning, and works to bridge the gap between high school and elementary school students. Our work is based on the arts; music, writing, acting and improv, and mixed media. Our goal is to create a place where students feel safe to express their thoughts and feelings through these creative focuses. This program will run once a week, and at the end of our 10 week session we will be hosting a final showcase at Northampton High School. We are so happy and excited to be sharing this program with your students this coming fall. Permission slips and sign up sheets will be delivered in September of 2019.
Best,
SASH
(Northampton High schoolers)
On June 13th, there will be an informational meeting for students who are currently in grades 3-5. If you are interested in joining students to hear this presentation by the high school students, please feel free to join us at 9:00 a.m. on the 13th. If you have any questions prior to the informational session, please feel free to contact me.
First Lego League Jr. Robotics Program
The district-wide FIRST® LEGO® League Jr. robotics program is expanding to include additional teams at each of Northampton’s elementary schools. The goal is to have three teams at Bridge Street starting in early fall 2019, but we need six or more volunteer coaches to make that happen!
No previous experience with the FLL Jr. program is required. If you have 1-2 hours per week to give to the program and enjoy empowering your child and other students to learn, explore, create and problem solve, then you have what it takes to be a FLL Jr. coach! To learn more about FIRST LEGO League Jr., visit: https://www.firstinspires.org/robotics/flljr.
FLL Jr. provides coaches with a wealth of helpful resources, and last year’s coaches will act as mentors to new coaches. Two coaches are assigned to teams of no more than six students in Grades 1-4 that will meet for 12 weeks on dates and times to be determined by the coaches.
There will be an informational meeting for interested volunteers on June 3, 2019 from 6:30-7:30 in the BSS library. Please contact Stephanie Pouliot (spouliot2009@gmail.com) for additional information if you are unable to attend the meeting.
