February Counseling Classroom Lessons
Classroom lessons in February will focus on conflict and I-messages. The 7 habits are important in these conversations as we seek first to understand to avoid misunderstandings. Using I-messages builds self-advocacy which is important as our students learn and grow. Each lesson includes a story within the lesson. Most of the books are available in the River Birch library for students to check-out and read!
Different student groups are starting over the next few weeks. Individual students are taking part in these short term small groups with either Ms. Kopke (School Counselor) or Mrs. Stailey (School Social Worker) to work on Mental Wellness and building school success. If you are interested in your student participating in one of these groups. Click the blue button below and send a request to Ms. Kopke.

Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen, and Tums are available in the clinic. These can be given at the discretion of the school nurse to any student who has permission. Any additional over-the-counter medications (including cough drops) will be kept in the clinic and need to be supplied by the parent. All over-the-counter permission is provided via CareDox or written request from parent/guardian. All medication must be in the original unopened container and will be given according to the directions on the bottle and dosage needs that are appropriate for the age and weight of the student. If the dosage exceeds recommendations, permission must be granted from a primary care provider. On Monday, February 8th, The ACSC Board of School Trustees voted to finalize start and end times for the 2021-22 school year. The models were each designed to optimize student growth, support teacher collaboration, and seek transportation efficiencies to address the ongoing bus driver shortage. The board voted 3-2 to adopt model 5a. This model places Avon Intermediate School East and West in Tier 1. Tier 2 contains Avon High School and Cedar, Sycamore, and Maple Elementary Schools. Avon Middle School North and South and Hickory, Pine Tree, and River Birch Elementary Schools will move to Tier 3.
