Big picture

Library Card Sign-up Day with Teen Librarian Meghan Casey - Celebrate Your Library Superpowers!

Thursday, Aug. 30th, 11am-1pm

7801 Titan Drive, Antelope, CA, USA 95843

Students will have the opportunity to sign-up for a Sacramento Library Card on campus. This will allow students to not only access print resources at the local Library but also give them access to all of the Sacramento Library Databases and the new Libby App from their own homes! This is great for ebook reading and those research projects. We want students using vetted sources, not just Google.

Stop by the Library Card Drive Table in front of the Library, during both lunches, to pick up an application for one. Mrs. Casey will also have lots of local library info for teens, freebies, and treats. See you there!

Banned Books Week is Sept. 23rd-29th

Stand up to censorship and declare your literary freedoms by reading a "banned" book. Come and check out some great formerly challenged books in the Library. Test your banned books knowledge during Banned Books Week and have a chance to win a FREE $5 Starbuck's card. Go to the following link or click on the Google Form below to take the Banned Books' quiz and be entered into the gift card drawing. Winners will be announced on October 5th.

Upcoming Library Programs 2018

The AnHS LIbrary will be implementing a Teen Advisory Board for the 2018-2019 school year. Titan students will be in charge of designing, planning, and advertising events and programs of their choice to their fellow Titans. We are excited to ramp up our makerspace activities through this student group and bring a variety of new ideas such as compassionate making, a film/book club, and global citizenship to our Library. Students can join during Club Rush Week September 4-7th.

1:1 Chromebook Roll-Out

All freshmen and sophomores received Chromebooks and chargers on August 3, 2018.

Juniors and seniors continue to have Chromebooks available to them in the classroom.

Optional Chromebook insurance coverage is still available to purchase until September 7, 2018. Forms and information can be found on the District website. Students can pay at Student Services on campus or online in the Webstore. The cost is $30 for one school year.

My Titan has not yet picked up their Chromebook!

If your 9th or 10th grader has not yet picked up their Chromebook, please have them do so ASAP. They will need to bring both contracts, signed by you and them, to receive their Chromebook. They can pick up their Chromebook in the Library before school, at lunch, or after school.

What if my Titan needs access to a Chromebook outside of class and does not have one?

The AnHS Library has Chromebooks available for use after school. Any student who needs access to a Chromebook or printing services can take advantage of our Library resources. Library hours can be viewed here. The local North Highlands-Antelope Library is also a great resource for technology.

Chromebook Expectations

All students were made aware of the following expectations during Titan 28 on August 15th. Thank you for supporting your favorite Titan in being a great digital citizen!

  • Bring your Chromebook (CB) everyday, charged and ready to go!

    • If you bring your charger to school, charge at an appropriate time.

  • Take care of your Chromebook and follow all District guidelines

    • Loss or damage is your responsibility

  • Use your Chromebook appropriately in class

    • Only use CB when asked to by an instructor, share if necessary

    • Unless given permission, only use your assigned CB.

    • Stay on task! Only browse, game, chat or message if it’s part of the class lesson

    • Regularly participate, check and post on Google Classroom

    • Only post or access content, images, and sites that are school appropriate

    • Think before you post! No cyberbullying, no inappropriate language or racist terms

      • Chromebooks are monitored 24/7 and any inappropriate use will be forwarded on to admin and counselors

Digital Citizenship Education

Technology integration in a safe and positive way is a main priority this school year. Students were already introduced to Digital Literacy skills and practices on August 15th and 16th during Titan 28. They discussed the following Digital Literacy Skills and Ethical Obligations plus the pitfalls of oversharing online:

  • Search effectively.

  • Protect your and others' private information online.

  • Give proper credit when using other people's work.

  • Understand digital footprints.

  • Respect each other's ideas and opinions.

Social Studies, English, and Health classes will also be incorporating Digital Literacy lessons throughout the year, and all classrooms have common Chromebook Expectations.

We are excited to take our students to the next level with technology while guiding them in the proper and safe use of their devices.

You can find additional digital citizenship information on the District Website.

Database Upgrades 2018

The State of California is offering California Public Schools a database bundle free of charge. Students now have access to a greater number of databases and will be exposed to a wider variety of database interfaces to better prepare them for their future college and career pursuits and help them become more information literate. Titans can log in to these new databases from the AnHS Library website by scrolling past the database videos and tutorials. Remote access usernames and passwords can be found there as well.

Click on the images below to visit the new databases!

Technology Upgrades

The Library will be continuing our gradual replacement of old PC computers with new Chromeboxes and Chromebooks to further support the technology integration in the classrooms. Students will also have the capability to print from Chromebooks while in the Library.

Search for books from home using our OPAC. Place a hold on your favorite titles. Pick up your requested book(s) at the Library Circulation Desk.

Need a vetted source for a school project or paper? Access a variety of quality and credible sources right from home on the AnHS Library Webpage.
