A Weekly Look at Grant Elementary School

Our First Full Week

Grant students successfully completed their first FULL week of the 2018-19 school year and are on to their second! As I walk around to each classroom I see students engaged in meaningful class discussions, collaborating with their classmates on group assignments and using their critical thinking skills to solve problems. We are so proud of all of the hard work and enthusiasm they have brought to the start of the school year!

Depth & Complexity Icons in Our Classrooms

The Depth and Complexity Icons are visual prompts designed to help students go beyond the surface level understanding of a concept and enhance their ability to think critically. These critical thinking tools help students dig deeper into a concept (depth) and understand that concept with greater complexity.

Art Docents

Are you interested in art? Do you like children? Combine the two in a wonderful volunteer opportunity. The Art Docent Program is looking for volunteer docents to teach art in the classrooms forTK- through Sixth Grades. Absolutely no art experience is necessary-only a love of art and the desire to bring art into children’s lives. Volunteer time is flexible and training time is minimal. Please contact Alyse Breece, Art Docent Coordinator at abreece@petk12.org or phone (707) 778-4958.

TOOLBOX- Our Social Emotional Curriculum

TOOLBOX is a Kindergarten through a 6th-grade program that supports children in understanding and managing their own emotional, social, and academic success. The foundation of TOOLBOX is 12 human capacities that reside within all of us. Through its simple and profound metaphor of Tools, TOOLBOX brings forward a set of skills and practices that help students access their own inner resilience at any time, in any context. This is curriculum is used in the classroom, on the playground and will be highlighted in our Best Assemblies each week. This week will review the Breathing Tool, the Quiet/Safe Place Tool.
