Congratulations to the 2019-2020 CVUSD Teacher of the Year: Sandra Martinez-Galvan

Ms. Martinez-Galvan is a remarkable Thousand Oaks High School teacher who has an excellent rapport with students, parents and colleagues. She is engaging, creative and dedicated to teaching students to care about themselves and the world around them, expanding their knowledge and awareness to their culture and life beyond school. Ms. Martinez-Galvan has been celebrated as an award-winning member of the Latino Community and has implemented a program that provides opportunities for Latino students to become leaders at Thousand Oaks High School and in the community. As the Conejo Valley Unified Teacher of the Year, she has been submitted as our nomination for the Ventura County Teacher of the Year. Read more

We are proud to recognize the following Classified Employees for their outstanding contributions above and beyond their call of duty. These dedicated individuals make an invaluable impact on their respective school campuses. They are problem-solvers, and take initiative to ensure their daily actions support and positively impact their colleagues, along with the students and families the District proudly serves. These recognitions come as a follow-up to Classified School Employee Week, which the District celebrated from May 17-23, 2020. Blast Off! Our Ladera STARS Academy Dragons Become Part of History

It was history in the making at the NASA launch of SpaceX’s Crew Dragon capsule, which took place this past Saturday! Our Ladera STARS Academy Dragons - led by student council president Klarissa, had the unique opportunity to ask former astronaut Mike Massimino a question via zoom as part of the Space Launch Live show. Colleen Shields Announced as New Principal of Westlake Hills Elementary School

At the Tuesday, May 19th Board of Education Meeting, Colleen Shields was announced as the new principal of Westlake Hills Elementary School. We proudly welcome her to the CVUSD!

Ms. Shields has served a variety of roles in education in distinct school settings and at all levels of K-5 education. This includes 11 years as an educator in 1st-5th grade classrooms, and 22 years as a principal. Most recently she served as the principal of an esteemed elementary school in San Marino, California.

Westlake High School Students Win First Place in Young Investors Society Global Stock Pitch Competition

The Young Investors Society (YIS) Global Stock Pitch Competition sponsored by Investor’s Business Daily was held virtually on May 21, 2020. The competition is the culmination event to showcase investment skills gained by students in the Young Investors Society program throughout the year. After regionals, six teams moved on to the Global Stock Pitch Finals including Westlake High School's team, and teams from across the U.S, Hong Kong and Malaysia. WHS's team comprised of students Arjun and Abhinav won with their amazing pitch of a manufacturing company. Congratulations!

This May, We Celebrated National Teacher Appreciation Week, National School Nurse Day & Classified School Employee Week. Does your student have a loaned technology device? Are they returning to CVUSD in the fall? Good news! They may continue to borrow the device over the summer (if they choose!). Complete information - including how to schedule a "Return my device" appointment is available here.

Free WiFi Available at Select CVUSD Schools’ Parking Stalls

Internet connection is key to distance learning for CVUSD students, and we are proud to offer another, free way for students to digitally connect.

As of Thursday, May 14th, families may find specially marked parking spaces at five CVUSD schools where they will be able to easily connect to the internet for free. The school sites are:

Served with love. From March 16th through May 28th, our Child Nutrition team has served a phenomenal 114,336 FREE meals to children ages 2-18.

Free Meals Available for Children through the end of June

As an essential service to the community we proudly serve, our Child Nutrition team is providing FREE sack lunches, and breakfasts for the following morning to all children ages 2-18 during the district-wide physical school closure. We will continue to serve meals through the end of June.

COVID-19 Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) Benefits are Now Available for Eligible California Families

COVID-19 Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) benefits are now available for eligible California families. Families with children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals can apply for food assistance ($365 per child) before June 30. Families may receive the P-EBT Benefits and also receive free meals from CVUSD's meal distributions.
