The STAR Second Grade
September 20th-24th
Dear Families,
Please be sure to sign up for a conference time on the sign up geniuses! We look forward to meeting with you to discuss your student's progress in 2nd grade so far. If a time does not work for your family, email your teacher and we will find a time that works.
What are we learning in 2nd grade?
Math
Reading
A deeper look at a 2nd Grade Priority Standard: Throughout 2nd grade, one of our BIG focus standards in reading is being able to ask and answer questions about what we're reading. First, asking questions keeps us, as readers, engaged in and thinking about what we're reading. Then we are better able to notice if we don't understand something and to go back and reread to figure it out-- whether that be a word, phrase, or even an event in the text. Secondly, we are working on the skill of being able to go back and find answers to questions in the text, or find clues that help us figure out the author's meaning. We'll be working on these skills through the year!

Birthday Expectations
Birthdays are so special to celebrate! Here at Rising Star we will no longer be accepting edible birthday treats. Instead, if you would like to, you may send in things like toys, books, pencils, or other small items you can for the entire class. Each classroom has its own way of celebrating classmates' birthdays, so sending in items is not expected or needed. Also, please remember that birthday invitations should be given out to the entire class if they are given out during the school day. If you questions or need suggestions, please don't hesitate to ask!
