Treasure Chest
Phoenix Elementary School - October 27, 2022
Principal Message
It is hard to believe that we are already a quarter of the way through the year. Along with helping students learn and grow one of our biggest priorities is student safety. Last week we participated in the Great Shakeout which is a nationwide earthquake drill and this morning we had our first lockdown drill. You will be pleased to know that our students did an amazing job of following the guidelines to help keep us all safe and the staff helped create an environment where students felt cared for and supported.
As you know we are busy helping students improve their reading skills by implementing our new reading curriculum. My two sons attend schools in the district and I have to admit it has taken our family a while to create habits around the strategies we learned during our Family Engagement night last month but we are finally getting cozy with echo reading and choral reading. I can already see that it's helping my 2nd grader feel more confident so if you haven't had a chance to try out those strategies or you have questions, please feel free to reach out.
Lastly, please make sure to check out all of the events we have coming up as we love seeing our families participate with us. It feels so great to return to some of our old traditions and also create new ones. I truly love being the Principal at PES because of our wonderful students, staff, and families.
Warmly,
Shawna Schleif

Student Survey - Grades 3rd-5th
PTS Rising is committed to creating safe and welcoming learning environments so that all our students can shape successful futures. This year, we invite students to share their thoughts and feedback about the safety, wellness, sense of belonging, and learning supports that exist in our schools through a Student Climate Survey. This survey is tailored for students in grades 3-5 and students in grades 6-12.
The survey is intended to provide schools and the district with data that reflect components of the school climate that support a safe, supportive, and connected learning environment.
Climate surveys will be administered during school hours between November 7-18. The survey is about 15 minutes in length and all responses are anonymous. If you would like to see a copy of the survey questions, you may view them here - Grades 3-5 and Grades 6-12. If you prefer your student not to participate in our student climate survey, please contact your student’s school at 541-535-3353 to opt out of the survey.
