Note from the Principal
Greetings Buena Vista Parents,
Hang on! The next five weeks are going to fly by! Here is what is on top!
This Week:
Parent Feedback
We still need your parent input for our Youth Truth Survey. Please take 15 minutes to respond to this survey. (I am aiming for 75%+ participation...BV is currently at 31%. I know we can make that mark...and if truth be told, I may have a little competition going on with the rest of the WCSD principals on who can gather the most parent participation on this one.)
Please take the survey before it closes at midnight on April 29th by clicking this link: http://www.ytsurvey.org/wcsdfamily22.
State Testing
Tomorrow is 5th grade CAST (Science) testing and next week all 3rd-5th graders will take the CAASPP (ELA and Math) assessments. We will test early every morning and have make ups in the afternoons for those that missed. You can help out by making sure your child gets a good nights rest, and filling breakfast and makes it to school on time. If you want to know more click here is parent information.
Student Learning
We were very happy to host WCSD School Board Trustee, Sarah Talach, for a visit to our school to see student learning in action on Monday We saw SO many fantastic things. Some of the many highlights were our visit into Mrs. Wherritt's and Mrs. Fairholm's second grade classrooms where students were investigating biographies and annotating highlights they were learning about famous people by researching interesting facts. They were working hard to try and see which important person that they were interested enough to do a presentation on later next month.
In Mr. Hauge's Kindergarten class we were able to observe his kindergartners working hard to use persuasive writing strategies to convince him (or maybe me) that recess should be extended to one hour! They were using amazing sound spelling strategies and being sure to use finger spaces between their words. Many students even remembered to use a period at the end of their sentence. What amazing writers they are.
I also had the opportunity to visit Mrs. Hurd's third grade class. Students were working on figuring area and perimeter of various shapes. They were looking closely at the shapes and determining how to solve for the area and perimeter of the shapes, they then need to determine how to mark the correct units, either inches or inches squared, depending on what they were measuring. They were able to note their measurements with post-it notes directly on their shapes and check their work with their peers.
