Hemlock & K.C. Ling Elementary Newsletter

The Week of August 30 - September 3rd

Welcome Back, Huskies!

Wow! What a great start to the new school year! It feels so great to see students sitting at desks again. I hope you and your children are adjusting well to the routines. One of those new routines deals with the morning drop-off procedures for parents.

Starting next week, families can drop off students at Hemlock Elementary at 7:25 a.m. using the drive-thru loop. Staff members will be stationed throughout the school directing students to their classrooms. If you are walking your child up, please park in the parking lot rather than the drive-thru.

At K.C. Ling Elementary, we are adjusting the drop-off time to 7:20 a.m. Students being dropped off prior to 7:30 will enter through door 18 and wait by their lockers. After 7:30, students being dropped off will enter through the exterior classroom doors like normal. Please have students exit your vehicle on the passenger side along the sidewalk. If your child needs assistance, please park in the parking lot and walk them across using the crosswalk to keep the flow of traffic moving steadily. Children should not walk from the parking lot to the sidewalk unattended.

As always, thank you for all your support! We hope these changes help traffic flow more smoothly in the mornings.

NWEA Testing

Over the course of the next three weeks, all of our students will be participating in NWEA testing. The results of these tests allow us to provide instruction that is tailored to student achievement data. These test results also help us measure your student’s academic growth throughout the school year as they are administered three times each year (Fall, Winter, Spring). If you have opted for the virtual-only option for the beginning of the school year, the classroom teacher will be contacting you to schedule a testing time for your child to be assessed.

If you have any questions or would like more information about the NWEA tests, please feel free to contact Mrs. Gensch.
