GAEA Art Blast
October 2023
GAEA PRESIDENT
Earlier this month, many celebrated the 20th anniversary of “The Dot” by Peter H. Reynolds during International Dot Day. It’s hard to believe 20 years have passed since that book was published. Additionally, it is a powerful reflection to think how a simple “dot” has inspired so many throughout the years. I often recall my many first days of elementary school and how I would utilize that book as a springbok into the cool things we would be doing in art that year. Ironically, we think of a dot or the period as the end, the closing of a statement, yet the dot is just a beginning. Making a mark and seeing where it will take you. It is in that spirit I hope you too will step out and make your mark. Perhaps, this is the year to try something new in hopes to cultivate community, nurture relationships, or build efficacy. Your fellow art educators are here to help you along your journey, together we can empower, strengthen, and grow. This is why we all seem to look forward to our annual fall conference, it is that time of year we build relationships that sustain us throughout the year, filling each other like Vessels. I hope to see you at our fall conference, Vessel, where collectively you can fill and be filled.
This this years conference has been exceptionally well received and unfortunately, registration is now closed.
We worked diligently to accommodate everyone but our host site has strict capacity limits concerning the fire code and other restrictions. Therefore, we are not able to add additional attendees to the conference this year. Over the last decade of GAEA conferences, we have often made use of large, hotel conference spaces. However, those venues have exceptional costs and many of those costs have risen greatly in recent years. To remain a financially sustainable association, in certain cases GAEA has had to look to other community partners and venues for space as is the case with Vessels. We look forward to hopefully seeing you next year!
We also would encourage attendees who have selected multiple workshop sessions at the same time to select your best option so that workshop spaces can open for others to select. The GAEA conference team secured hotel accommodations in Columbus, however all the hotels that GAEA secured are now at capacity. Columbus has many other options, if you have not yet booked a room we would encourage you to finalize those plans as Columbus is a popular destination for conferences, workshops, and events.
A special thanks to the 2023 conference team for all their hard work!

Size considerations
Work that is not the correct size or orientation will not be accepted.
- E Gallery 70 frames - all are 18 x 24 vertical max art size
- T Gallery 40 frames - all are 19 X 17 horizontal max art size
Tips:
- Make sure the artwork is of the highest quality and appropriate for ALL audiences that will view it in the airport. No nudity or suggestive depictions, violence, or political commentary for this show. Please no glitter, extremely fragile, or unfixed charcoal or pastels.
- You can put multiple pieces of art in one frame (not to exceed 4 on T and 6 on E), but make sure they go together well. Pieces of the same size look best when grouped together. All student names may not be listed on frames filled in this way, but the school and teacher name will.
- Please don’t fill multiple frames with the exact same project where there is very little or no variation.
- Please do not send seasonal artwork as the dates span a range of months and holidays.
- Work should be complete, show a range of value and/or color and fill the page.
- No artwork on notebook paper or work that is or has been folded and has crease lines.
- Do not mat the art. It will be professionally matted.
- The art MUST have a completed and legible permission slip attached to the back of the work. Make sure the student and/or parent have signed that they are aware the work is to be hung and we are not responsible for loss or damage (although that rarely happens).
- We are no longer mailing work back to you. You will need to be able to pick it up or have someone pick it up in Rockdale County, Conyers.
- Tours are no longer available. The only way to view the artwork is to be cleared to go to concourses (for a flight or because they work there, etc.)
