Palm Sunday
I want to begin by first letting everyone know that this coming Sunday, March 29th, 2015, is Palm Sunday, and there will be one Mass @ 10:00AM. As a result, we will not be having our regular Youth Ministry meeting this week. However, I do look forward to seeing everyone in Mass on Sunday with the opportunity for us to celebrate Palm Sunday as one body.
So, what is Palm Sunday all about?? Well...Palm Sunday marks the beginning of "Holy Week" because it is the time when Jesus made his triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The Bible tells us that when Jesus came into Jerusalem he was greeted by great crowds covering his path with palm branches, while shouting "Hosanna to the Son of David." This is what some refer to as the "beginning of the end" of Jesus' earthly ministry. The beginning of Jesus' journey to the cross culminating on Easter Sunday.
I would like for our Youth Ministry students to read the account of Jesus and His triumphal entry in Jerusalem, and reflect upon what this story means to them. Why is Palm Sunday significant to your faith, and how is it relevant to your life today? Please write a short paragraph with your thoughts, and please send them to me via email prior to Good Friday. We'll discuss them the next time that we gather.
As I reflect upon Jesus' journey to the cross, I reflect upon his willingness to take that journey knowing what was ahead. Jesus was never moved by the circumstances of the hour, for he knew that his only purpose and mission was to accomplish the Will of the Father on the cross. The journey of Jesus to the cross during Holy Week represents my own journey to my own "Cross" where I submit daily to the will, plan, and purpose of my Heavenly Father.
Again to our Youth Ministry students, please read the biblical account of what we now celebrate as Palm Sunday, and reflect upon what it means to you. I look forward to our discussion in the coming weeks ahead.
(The biblical account of Palm Sunday can be found in Matthew 21:1-11; Mark 11:1-11; Luke 19:28-44; and John 12:12-19.)

Jesus’ Triumphant Entry
Matthew 21:1-11New Living Translation (NLT)
"As Jesus and the disciples approached Jerusalem, they came to the town of Bethphage on the Mount of Olives. Jesus sent two of them on ahead. 2 “Go into the village over there,” he said. “As soon as you enter it, you will see a donkey tied there, with its colt beside it. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone asks what you are doing, just say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will immediately let you take them.”
4 This took place to fulfill the prophecy that said,
5 “Tell the people of Jerusalem,
‘Look, your King is coming to you.
He is humble, riding on a donkey—
riding on a donkey’s colt.’”
6 The two disciples did as Jesus commanded.
7 They brought the donkey and the colt to him and threw their garments over the colt, and he sat on it.
8 Most of the crowd spread their garments on the road ahead of him, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
9 Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around him were shouting,
“Praise God for the Son of David!
Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Praise God in highest heaven!”
10 The entire city of Jerusalem was in an uproar as he entered. “Who is this?” they asked.
11 And the crowds replied, “It’s Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth in Galilee.”
