Famous Shakespeare Quotes

One of Ten Thousand

"To Be Honest, as this Word Goes, is to be One Man Picked Out of Ten Thousand"

In Shakespeare's Hamlet in Act II Scene 2 Hamlet and Polonius are conversing about Ophelia. Hamlet asks Polonius if he is a fishmonger because he seems to be honest. Polonius says he is not and asks why Hamlet asked. Hamlet tells Polonius that " to be honest, as this word goes, is to be one man picked out of ten thousand." He tells Polonius this in an admiring tone and it creates a respect for each other. The quote  tells how big of a deal it is for someone to be able to just pick someone out as being honest out of all the people in the world that are dishonest. This brings across that finding an honest man is a rareity.
