Word for the Warrior...
Hello All,
We had a BIG WEEK last week! We had a successful audit, Model City outreach (at Model City!), Aladdin Jr., Junior Clinic Orchestra, big Girls and Boys Basketball victories and more!
The audit was such a celebration of all of the good work that is going on at Sevier and I am so proud of our work and the culture that YOU help set for our students that reflect a perfect balance of academic press and pastoral care.
When I reflected on the goals we have for the year as identified by our SIP and the goals we turned in to Dr. Moorhouse, as we reported out on this work during our audit, I was EXCITED about our continued work and growth that is propelling our kids forward!
1. Literacy-As you know, Dr. Moorhouse has charged our entire district with a Literacy Goal. Since last year, we have worked to adhere to the work Shmoker advocates in his book, FOCUS, to ensure 90-120 quality reading and writing instruction per day. This can only happen when we make reading and writing a part of the learning process across the curriculum. I am confident this work is happening as we plan for this in our collaboratives. Thank you for using reading and writing as a tool for students to demonstrate higher order thinking.
2. Consistent Common Formative Assessments/Data Conferences/Reteaching and Enrichment-While we have utilized Common Formative Assessments for several years, this year, we are working even more closely together to ensure we are tight in our assessment and instructional practices and are even more committed to consistent data conferences in order to plan for reteaching and enrichment to ensure that our students continue to learn and be stretched to do their best. GROWTH MINDSET
3. Restorative Practices Focus-In response to student needs, we have a faculty meeting focus to inform us about all things restorative practices so that we can grow in our understandings of how to best support the social emotional needs of our students. Additionally, we have added an SEL time daily in order to support student goal setting, SEL curriculum and time for restorative circles.
All of our work in these areas is making a difference! Reading and Writing are just how we plan for learning to occur at Sevier. It is refreshing that planning for quality reading and writing isn’t a “thing” to plan for, but rather just how we expect students to acquire and demonstrate new learning! It is exciting to see student progress in the work happening with teams using Formative A and B assessments and we continue to support a growth mindset with students and as we commit to systematically planning for re-teaching and enrichment! And as for restorative practices, our learning culture this year is very positive and both students and adults report stronger relationships supporting a better learning environment this year!
This is all a result of YOUR COMMITMENT TO OUR KIDS!
PROUD TO BE A WARRIOR!
Holly
