Ms. Harris' Weekly Update
March 27th-31st
What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Science: In Science this week we are reviewing Lessons 1-3. Our quiz over those lessons will be Tuesday. On Wednesday we will start a big lesson on how weather changes. This will cover fronts, air pressure, and reading weather maps. We will continue with Lesson 4 until Spring Break.
- Ms. Shipp's Social Studies: This week we are wrapping up our unit on Westward Expansion. Our unit test will be Friday. If students have run out of room in their SS Ians, they will need a new notebook for our last unit on the Civil War. If they'd like to send in $1 instead, Ms. Shipp will go and purchase them a notebook.
- Mrs. Leonard's Math: This week we will learn about polygons, quadrilaterals, and triangles. Students will have a quiz over this information Thursday or Friday.
- Mrs. Thurston's Math and ELA: In ELA, this week, we will be continuing Poetry and will start working on our Poetry Café that we will have with Second Grade (more info to come). In writing we are reviewing Figurative Language. In math, we will learn how to use a protractor to measure/draw angles. Quick Quiz on Friday on using a protractor.
- Ms. Harris' GT Math and ELA: This week we will start measuring and drawing angles with protractors. Students will be given a protractor to take home and use on homework. They should return with it each day. A quiz on angles will be on Friday. In ELA, we will finish up poetry, mood, and tone. Students will write 2 poems on the same topic with different moods and tones. On Wednesday, we will have a Socratic Seminar. Our spelling test this week will be on THURSDAY, not FRIDAY.
JDRF Kids Walk will be April 7th.
Information will be coming home today about this great opportunity to raise money and bring awareness to this worthy cause. Our school goal is to raise $5000 for JDRF research to improve the lives of all people affected by T1D.
Math Stars Celebration
A HUGE thank you to all the volunteers who helped out this year with math stars. We are wrapping up our 10 week program this week, and I for one have seen incredible growth in the students' ability to problem-solve and tackle tricky or difficult math problems. Next Monday (3rd) will be our math stars celebration at 11:30. If you helped out this year, we'd love for you to come and celebrate your group's hard work. Please let me know if you can make it! :)
