PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
Grandparent's Day and Fire Safety Day were a HUGE success. Thank you to everyone that was involved to make those events happen.
Today you received a note about conferences. Please be sure to go online right away and schedule times with each of your children's teachers. Time slots will fill up fast. Conferences are a time for the teachers to find out more about your child and for you to find out more about school. Teamwork is essential in the success of each child's learning.
The cooler weather is upon us. Please be sure you are sending your child in proper outdoor clothing. Before school the kids are outside for about 10 minutes and the mornings are rather chilly even when the temps get warmer in the afternoon. Winter clothing needs will be right around the corner. If you will be in need of assistance in supplying that for your child, please contact the school and we will do all we can to help out.
Our school year is off to a great start and I know we will continue that all the way through to the end. I am excited to see all the great things that will happen this year. Please contact me with any questions or concerns you have about your child or school.

Abrams PE Stacking Cup Challenge 2017
Do you know anyone with a World Record? You will!!!
Did you know stacking and un-stacking plastic cups is an energizing, brain-activating and world-record-setting activity? On Thursday, November 9th, all the students at Abrams Elementary will take part in what Guinness World Records terms the “World’s Largest Sport Stacking Event.” During this day, sport stackers from all around the world will up stack and down stack for at least 30 minutes. Sport stacking is appealing to teachers and students because it’s easy to learn but very challenging to master. Benefits include improved reaction time, hand-eye coordination, concentration and focus.
Last year, 622,809 stackers participated to set a new record. This year the new goal for the record is being set at 635,000 participants from countries such as the United States, Hungary, Germany, South Korea, New Zealand, Colombia and Taiwan.
Last year our school earned a FREE Sport Pack of Speed Stacks. We had 50 sets of Speed Stacks to sell in order to keep the Sport Pack for free. We will have many years of fun using these cups!
NICE JOB EVERYONE!!!

Library News
October is 'Keeping Kids Safe Online' Month in Wisconsin.
The IMC wants to remind families that we have a collection of Internet Safety resources on our District Library Media Center website, on the Internet Safety / Digital Citizenship link.
Also accessible is a new website from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), in partnership with the Department of Justice (DOJ), to create awareness about Internet Safety. This site provides a compilation of resources, tools, and information to empower all stakeholders (students, teachers, parents, and administrators) to make safe, smart and ethical decisions about technology use. Over the last few years, there has been a shift from 'acceptable' to 'responsible' use of digital resources. This shift is a change in expectation for use of technology in and out of the classroom. Keeping kids safe online is a fundamental goal of school districts, the Wisconsin Digital Learning Plan, and the Wisconsin Information and Technology Literacy Standards. Technology is a way of life for today's students and we all need to be sure we support their safe and responsible use of digital resources. To access this website, go to: https://dpi.wi.gov/internet-safety
Food Service Notes
A Note From Food Service…
A child’s eligibility status from the previous school year is carried into the current school year for up to 30 days, beginning on the first day of school, or until a new eligibility determination is made, whichever comes first. If no new application is submitted and eligibility is not established through direct certification by the end of the 30-day carryover period, a child’s eligibility for free or reduced price meals expires and the student then goes to the normal paid rate.
So if you haven't filled out a current free/reduced application, please take the time to fill it out for this school year.
If you have questions, please feel free to contact Amanda Sonnenburg at 920-848-4466 ext. 3 or email at amanda.sonnenburg@of-ps.org.
