Nuts & Bolts
March 4, 2019
Wow! Last week was super busy. Thank you all for your participation in History Week. I enjoyed seeing all of the different ways that the history theme was woven in student projects and research this week. Special thanks to those committee members that organized these events - Adrian, Andrea, Kat, Nicoletta.
Thank you all for preparing students and for being in the spelling bee audience. Thank you, Jalee, for organizing this event. Thank you judges, Nicoletta, Shanan, and Amity.
Thank you to Amy for bringing Starbase STEM mission to MMA 6th graders. Thank you, UE teachers, for getting students psyched to go to Hill Airforce Base several times this fall and for your participation in the ceremony Friday. The graduation this week was fantastic and got 5th graders excited to attend Starbase next year.
Thank you Lana and Nicoletta, for hosting a team building meeting for our 6th grade Redwoods trip chaperones this week. Thank you to Leigh, for hosting the student/parent meeting for the Crow Canyon trip.
Thank you to MAPA and everyone who came out to support MMA Friday evening at Powder Mountain for skiing. The conditions were lovely and the company was even better.
Lana and Dana represented us well at the MEPI conference in South Carolina this weekend. I know they are excited to share what they have learned with you all.
The history museum should be fun on Tuesday! I'll see you all after school on Monday. The staff meeting agenda is attached below.
Have a super week,
Literacy Night - Teacher Attendance
G&C Challenge - Closing Lockers Quietly
I frequently hear that there is a lack of grace and courtesy in our building. Most recently, this was discussed at our advisory meeting. There were several reasons brought up that could be causing this phenomena. I would like us to try to address this by recognizing grace and courtesy when we see it happening.
Thank you for practicing and recognizing G&C when restoring our environment last week.
This week I would like to pose a challenge for you to recognize students, families, and colleagues who close lockers quietly.
Thank you all so much for implementing increased accountability measures after reading my email sent late Monday. I appreciate all of your effort signing studnets in and out. It has had a positive effect on our bathroom situation. Since Tuesday morning, there was only one instance where a little feces was in the bathroom. We figured out and attributed this incident with a child struggling to clean themselves, and not from malicious intent.
Until further notice, we will continue signing students in and out of our classrooms and conducting periodic bathroom checks, as indicated on the spreadsheet sent out last week.
Current Students - Registration for 19-20
Please remind families to look for this email to come out early next week and complete the registration process. Thank you for your support. Having accurate student counts for next year determines important pieces like staffing and funding, and how many students we should be pulling now for next school year.
I am going to facilitate a staff kids meeting this Wednesday in the library at 3:15pm. Please remind your child(ren), no matter their age, to attend. If you read this far in N&B, I applaud you and invite you to click here to get a special recognition treat. I will send a follow up email after our staff kids meeting letting everyone know if we updated any rules/expectations.
