Happenings on the Hill

MHBS 5-12 Communications/September 4, 2015

Prayers for the MH Family

During the past week the Mars Hill family has been hit particularly hard by sadness and loss. We ask you to continue to pray for the Swinea, Henderson, and Grossheim families who have all experienced losses this week. Being a part of this Mars Hill family is even more special during difficult times like these, and we are humbled and honored to walk along beside these families in their grief. Please express your love to these three families and be grateful for a faith that sustains us.

Cole Kelley Blood Drive Thursday

Student Council will be hosting a LifeSouth Blood Drive on Thursday, September 10 from 12 pm to 6 pm. This drive is in honor of one of our preschool students, Cole Kelley. The Blood Mobile will be parked in the senior parking lot (Cox Creek side). Please stop by and donate. As always, you are welcome to drop in to give blood, but you will get quicker service if you have an appointment. Please contact Stacy Harmon at sharmon@mhbs.org or Rachel Chandler at marshillpreschool1@comcast.net to make an appointment.

2014-15 Mizpahs are Here!

If you forgot to order a 2014-15 Mizpah, the yearbooks were delivered last week. They are fun and reflect hours and hours of hard work on the parts of the staff and adviser Kim Chandler.

Email Michelle Adams, this year's Mizpah adviser, at madams@mhbs.org if you want a $70 copy. Class of 2015, your yearbooks are in the 5-12 office.

Guidance News

Mrs. Molly Brown, guidance counselor, invites parents--especially senior parents--to take a look at the guidance web page on the school website. Parents will find useful college admissions and scholarship information throughout the year. Visit often for updates.

Students should check out the Major of the Week on Mrs. Brown's bulletin board for major and career opportunities. This week's highlighted field was careers in Math.

Middle School Students Love the Panthers

Last week middle schoolers took part in the week's theme and dressed in their class color. It's great to be a Mars Hill Panther!

Feeling Out of the Loop?

If you are not getting school emails or if you did not receive a call from the SchoolCast Emergency Notification System last week, please contact Bill Gooch at bgooch@mhbs.org.

If you need help figuring out Parent PortalsPlus, Mr. Gooch can help you with that, too. There's a free app, ParentPlus from Rediker Software, that will help you keep up with your child's grades and other important information.

Safety First: Harassment/Bullying Policy

MHBS is dedicated to fostering an environment based on the teachings of Matthew 7:12 and Ephesians 4:29-32, which promote kindness, acceptance, and tolerance. Furthermore, we are committed to providing a learning environment in which every child feels safe and secure.

To that end, we have created two avenues for students to report harassment or bullying. "No Bully Stands Alone" will be enforced, and students must report incidents of harassment and bullying to a teacher or an administrator. Students may report bullying via voice mailbox (256-718-8523) and email (bully@mhbs.org). Please see the Student Handbook for a complete explanation of the harassment and bullying policies.

Check Out our Website.

Please visit the MHBS website to find out all kinds of information about the Hill. As always, thank you for supporting Mars Hill: www.mhbs.org.

Let Us Know What's Going On... Let Others Know What's Going On!

If you have an event or human interest story directly related to the Mars Hill 5-12 family, we would love to know so "Happenings on the Hill" can include it. Email jfoust@mhbs.org. Also let others know what's going on on the Hill by sharing "Happenings" on your social media outlets.

The mission of Mars Hill Bible School is to provide every student--in a cooperative effort with the home and family--a Christ-centered, Bible-based education in an environment that fosters spiritual, academic, physical, and social growth.
