Bring on the Sunshine....
January 27-31
Kindness Matters...Please be watching for acts of Kindness and give out DoJo points!
Message from Hafey
As you know, we are holding a Family Prom on Friday, January 31! If you can show, that would be great - it is being taken care of primarily by our PAC parents, but showing for a short time (30 min) would be great!
In order to keep our costs down, we will be asking the following from each grade level:
Kindergarten: Toppings (Carmel, Hot Fudge, Chocoloate, Butterscotch)
1st Grade: Sprinkles
2nd Grade: Candy Toppings (mini m&m's, gummy worms/bears....)
3rd Grade: Vanilla Ice Cream - individual cups
4th Grade: Canned Whip Cream, Hot Chocolate Canisters
5th Grade: Styrofoam cups (small), Red and Black Napkins and Spoons
If you get items that need to be froze - please put into the freezer behind the stage. Items that need refrigerated can be put into the staff refrigerator - all other items can be put on the stage tables.
I will send these items out on DoJo as well!
Thank you,
Hafey
NICE JOB - be sure to communicate with your parents EACH week!
Kindergarten Connection Day - Monday, January 27
Next Fire Drill
So, we are going to add another layer to our Fire Drills. During our next Fire Drill - March 30 you will be asked to STOP and assess the situation - not just automatically line up and go outside. I want to have a practice around an intruder that may pull an alarm - once an announcement is made to exit the building, you will then leave the building, however, we will also have "fire cones" to indicate where fire may be to re-direct movement. If you have questions, please come see Hafey.
Activity Committee Update
So, here are the upcoming events that Sunset's Activity Committee is planning on:
**Next Rally Date: Monday, February 10
**February Theme: Spreading the Love - through RESPECT - we will take down the KIND letters - and replace it with Respect - students will work on earning DoJo points for Respect - ring the bell for every 5 Respectful points
Dr. Seuss Week - hooked on to Literacy Night (March 2) - more to come for this week
Next WHAT IF day is March 13th
Volunteer - will take place in April - we will ask for volunteer names the start of April.
CMAS Accommodations
It is getting close to testing day - The SuperBowl and I will start collecting accommodations! Just be thinking and be ready for me to ask and collect this information in Sunset's spreadsheet!
Message from Jen and Heather - IC Coaches
Here is the coaches' corner (you can copy and paste):
We heard feedback from Mel, across the district, in two main areas: spelling/phonics routine and independent small group centers. We will focus more on independent small group centers next week. If you want more information on this in the meantime, let us know.
Here is the spelling/phonics routine for Kindergarten and 1st-2nd grades. Here is the spelling/phonics routine for 3rd-5th grades. This is done whole group (15-20 min per day) with the grade-level phonics skill of the week. In your small groups, you will continue to work on the skills identified at data meetings. If you are still doing a pre/post-test on spelling words, please send Heather/Jenn an email, or catch us in person, so we can have a conversation about this.
