WSD Tech News
Summer 2015
Details, Details
Here are some details I wanted to share with you, as well as some resources in the rest of this Tech News to give you some food for thought over the next few weeks.
First- Typing Club We have purchased a subscription this year to Typing Club. Many of you tried out the free version last year. Do NOT create new accounts or set up classes. Our wonderful network administrators will import our students and classes nearer to the beginning of the school year, when most new students have registered. More details to come.
Jupiter Grades: As of now, this coming year will be our last using Jupiter Grades at the middle school level as an online gradebook/reporting system. I'll import students closer to the beginning of the year so that we include late registrants. I'll let you know when it's all set.
WeVideo: We are purchasing licenses for WeVideo, which is an online video editing program that works with Google Drive and allows for collaborative editing. I'll be setting that up and will be in touch to determine whether you want an account for yourself and for your students.
Our technicians and networks folks (and some minions) are hard at work all summer getting computers cleaned, iPads updated, new Chromebooks set up in carts, and much more. This is time consuming and it's hot. Be sure to thank them for their hard work if/when you see them.

Let It Go
Here's an additional post from the folks at the Tarrant Institute featuring a GREAT TED video, about teachers letting go (see the connection?) and trusting their students to lead their learning.
