Monthly Events Of Wildcats: February 2020

Principals Message

There has been a lot happening here at Weightman Middle School. We have had students sharing their extreme talents in our Science Fair, National History Day Fair, Talent Show and Special Olympics. We are very blessed to have so many amazing Wildcats in our community. With that being said, there is still so much more to learn and do. The excitement that comes this time of year is when students and families start thinking and making plans for next school year. We have planned our Wildcat Welcome on February 25th for all families to come on campus and learn about TEWMS. As this excitement develops, I ask all Wildcats to remember that it is the daily positive choices made that have the most impact of next years opportunities. As students work through the third quarter, which can be challenging, I ask families to help keep them focused on their goals. It is easy for to become distracted from our priorities with the excitement of upcoming opportunities. Remember the goals you set a few weeks ago during data chats: keep working hard and keep your ambition high

The "Pasco Parent Press" is a communication to share information of all things occurring within Pasco County schools. Check here for the latest information.

This will be a “Judges Only” event, so students will not be attending. However, if students are chosen to move on to the state level, they will be traveling to Tallahassee for the competition in early May.

TEWMS @ the Pasco Science & Engineering Showcase

We are excited to announce that Andrea M. (from Mrs. Shamblen's class) and James S. (from Mr. Ackett's class), both participated in the Pasco Science & Engineering showcase. The judges were impressed by the amount and level of the student projects. They are amongst 75 place awards in secondary as well as 64 Special Awards being given out to celebrating the students who went above and beyond. We are excited to recognize these students and their teachers on Wednesday, February 5th at the WCHPAC. Please help us to celebrate their accomplishment!

TEWMS Dresscode

Below is a copy of the TEWMS dress code for the 2019-2020 school year. Please talk with your student to make sure they know the dress code expectations, as they apply through out the entire school year and for all school sponsored events on or off campus.

Individual score reports for students

The individual score reports for students that have traditionally been made available in hard copy, are now available for view through the parent and student portals under the messages area of their entrance to myStudent. These score reports are not traditionally made available at the same time as the assessment results. They will be loaded into the system as received throughout all testing windows, year-round. At this time, our first assessment individual score reports from Fall of 2019 have been loaded. We have not yet received winter assessment individual score reports. As score reports are made available going forward, these will remain in the system by year taken.

This is a wonderful new functionality for families to visually see their assessment results and breakdown information by assessment.

Opportunity Hall

Opportunity Hall is our after school program that meets on Wednesdays from 3:00 to 4:30pm in our media center. During Opportunity Hall, we have teacher volunteers and student peer tutors to provide as much individualized academic assistance as possible. This also includes support in organization and study skills. In addition, students will have access to computers if need be.

This year we are scheduled to begin offering this support from August 28, 2019 through May 1, 2020. The program does require students to be picked up by 4:30 PM. A school snack is provided for attendees. If you and your child are interested in this support, please fill out the student agreement and permission form and return it to TEWMS as soon as possible. We look forward to helping your student flourish in their areas of need. If you have any questions, please contact Heather Eads.
