Principal Update - June Happenings
Just a few of our highlights from the 21-22 School Year
- Reopened doors to 5 days of face-to-face learning
- Maintained student health and safety through the pandemic
- Recertified as a Maryland Green School
- Had our best academic year thus far (using the most current MAP results)
- Held a Volunteer Breakfast to support our Parent Engagement initiative
- Raised funds toward our Road Sign (see below)
- Maintained our BlueJays as the kindest and best students around
End-of-Year Celebrations Matter
The end of the school year is as important as the beginning. How we say goodbye to our school family makes a difference. There will be several celebrations over the next several days that will give our students that sense of closure. Don't let your child miss a thing!
- Sports Day - June 10th
- Class Picnics - varied times the week of June 10th
- Fifth grade Farewell – June 14th
- Hero Assembly - June 15th
- Fifth Grade vs. Staff in Scooter Handball - June 16th
Summer Review Resource
We revisited and simplified our summer review packets a bit for this summer. We will be providing all students with a Bridges math review resource. We hope to get back to what we were doing BC (Before Covid), which was a September dance party with a snack treat for those students who complete and return the packet by the second week of the new school year.
Road Sign Update
In the December 2021 Blue Jay Bulletin I shared that we had raised a total of $25,388 toward the road sign and that the 2019 combined quotes (for updated electrical and sign costs) came to $31,943. We were knocking on the door of our updated sign! But, our quotes were 3 years old, so we wanted to update them. The updated 2022 quote for the sign is now at $46,589. We aren't losing heart though. We are half the way there, and intend to keep working toward our goal!

Sun Safety:
As the weather begins to warm up, we spend more time outside. Sun exposure is healthy for our bodies, but too much unprotected exposure to the sun’s UV rays can cause skin damage (i.e., sunburn).
Here are ways to protect your skin:
· Wear sunscreen with SPF of 30+
· Apply 15-30 minutes before going outdoors
· Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours
· Use water resistant sunscreen while in water
· Cover up skin with long sleeves
· Take breaks from the sun, stay in the shade!
Ways to relieve a sunburn:
· Apply aloe vera gel
· Rehydrate skin with moisturizing cream
· Take a cool bath
